According to the Social Security Administration in the US, Emily was the #1 name in 2004 in the entire country. My daughter's name is Emily, so I would be biased to the name anyway.

In High School I heard of a family where the kids were all named after trees: Tamarack, Cherry, Cedar.... I can't remember the rest, but I can sure think of more possibilities, Juniper for example. I actually think all of those names are very nice, though Tamarack seems a little extreme.

I also think Christmas names are pretty: Holly, Ivy, Joy, etc.

My name is an example of a common word used for a name (Cherry). It's even spelt the same. My grandmother's middle name is Rose. Growing up, neither one of us were too thrilled about our names. Those are the only two common word names that I'm aware of in my family in the last few generations. I personally like traditional names that aren't common words or places. I think parents sometimes get too creative with names not realizing that the kid will be stuck with that name forever, unless they have it legally changed.

I will probably be pretty cautious about naming kids when bwren and I get ready to start our family. I will definitely stay away from fruit names. smile.gif

I really had my heart set on naming our daughter strawberry.

I do not know of any names in my family that are common words actually.

bwren, get that thought out of your head. We are not inflicting the same pain and suffering on our children that my parents did to me. We're using nice, normals names.

*grin* You guys are funny.

One of the girls at our after school center is named Justice. She gets so excited whenever she sees a brand name from the child's store that's called Justice.

Her best friend at our center is named Star.

We also have several with the name 'Autumn.'

I heard someone named 'Honey', a girl of course, but it is kind of odd because "honey" is usually an associated nick name between lovers.
