Sovereignty

Sovereignty based on word terms equates to:

1. Supremacy of authority or rule as exercised by a sovereign or sovereign state.
2. Royal rank, authority, or power.
3. Complete independence and self-government.
4. A territory existing as an independent state.

Everywhere the S-word wreaks havoc. Iraqi terrorists kill hundreds of Americans and Iraqis to protest infringement of sovereignty by the Great Satan. Africans massacre other Africans because European-imposed "sovereign" borders clash with tribal allegiances.

Serbs and Albanians, Irish and British, Indians and Pakistanis, Armenians and Azerbaijanis, Russians and Chechens, Georgians and Abkhazians, French and Corsicans, Spanish and Basques, Mexicans and Zapatistas, Kurds and Turks (not to mention Kurds and Iraqis, or Kurds and Syrians), Chinese and Taiwanese (not to mention Chinese and Tibetans, Chinese and South Koreans, Chinese and Russians, Chinese and Indians ... ), all want to split heads over sovereignty.

It doesn't end there. In the United States, less bloody battles -- some more than 200 years old -- continue between the states and national government over sovereignty. In Europe, the evolution of the European Union into what some already call the "United States of Europe" now provokes regular battles about where E.U. law violates national sovereignty. In the rarefied world of international law, lawyers -- regular customers of the many international institutions, from the United Nations to the World Trade Organization, that routinely crimp national sovereignty -- shake their heads and wonder what all the fuss is about.

Sovereignty

Sovereignty is being made into a dirty word (like so many other words) today.

Of course, evil things may be done in the *name* of sovereignty, as they may of religion and many other things.

It would be hard to discover a more important concept than individual sovereignty as far as freedom is concerned (and thus government and politics). It is, when all is said and done, the power to govern our own life, to have exclusive dominion over our own being. And national sovereignty is but a just and lawful reflection of that individual power. To deny the latter is to erode the former.

In my humble opinion,

Dubhdara

Sovereignty History & Civil Business Politics

Soverignity belongs to the people who be a free just country and who can accept equal rights of allit's citizens. For example, I believe, Zimbabwe's sovernigty should be receded simply because what Mugabe has been doing lately!
Just across the border, in South Africa, I am glad majority rule exists. I mentioned that soverignity must come with liberty for all peoples of that country. South Africa should have not been considered a country doing the apartheid days simply because it opressed it's majority.

Sovereignty

Sovereignty is used as a word of convenience. In the United States, we like to use it when it comes to working with the United Nations. Its a way we can justify ignore what the rest of the world says and do what ever we want. Its also left out for convenience as well.

Most of the western world likes to leave out the word when referring to Palestine. The reason for this is that if used to many times in reference to them, then it becomes obvious that this nation is being illegally occupied and mis-treated by Israel since they have never left the lands given to them.

It is used as a dirty word many times. Such is the case by globalists who wish a single world government and try to make us feel ashamed that we determine our own fate. But to me it means so much more.

Sovereignty means that our country has the right to make decisions that are for our peoples own best interest. But it also means that we can put out the hand of peace and chose to allow other countrys a say it what goes on in the world instead of throwing our weight around. Sovereignty gives our people a voice in the world and gives us a place of standing among other nations. It makes us the land of the free, not the land of the ruled.

Sovereignty

I honestly believe that Sovereignty is earned by might. Anyone that think it is not is just fooling themselves. Countries that do not have might tend to be subservient to countries that do for protection, but they do pay a price for this bodyguard relationship.
