I'm a foreigner to Trinidad and I notice that people here are more deep than people in my own country. I found that people in my own country were quite shallow, or never took time to see beyond things. But people here generally are more deeper and even mroe spiritual. Is it because people here are more religious or something?
How ironic, an exact opposite to some Threads I have seen started here. Interesting how the title is a question and the content answers the title.
Before I even look to comment on this stereotyping of the people here and your country I have to ask...
1. Which country are you from?
2. What gave you that concept about your own people?
3. Which people in Trinidad are you referring to that made you arrive at that conclusion?
4. What about Trinidadians make them deep?
And lastly... and this is not meant to be sarcastic or insulting...
5. Could it be that you are in the shallow so everything seems deeper? How can you know if something is deep unless you are already there or been there?
1 - UK
2 - From the people I met there
3 - People I have met here
4 - They have deeper insights. Of the people I've met anyhow.
5 - I don't know. I think I'm more attracted to deeper people anyhow, for what it's worth.
1 & 2. The UK is an awfully big place as compared to Trinidad, both in size, population and experience. What I will have to question is those with whom you used to mingle so as to ascertain such a judgment. Maybe some of our UK Members in the UK Board will come over here to tell you what they think about that.
3 & 4. Either you have not been here long enough or you are surrounding yourself with a certain crowd. I always say, if you want to know a country you don't take a private car, stay at a hotel, eat in restaurants and shop in malls. If you want to know a country you get 'dirty'... go on the streets and walk where the majority of the people are, check the classed sections, visit the market, sleep in the wilderness and find yourself in places that are common. Then after placing yourself in those positions make a summary of your thoughts, both what you heard and saw.
5. If you don't know then let me lead you to some Threads for further reading:

This one should be right up your street:

There are more... but if you really look through this Board and not just the latest Threads, you will learn more.
OK, but nobody is perfect. It seems to me that your suggesting that people can be dotish sometimes, but to err is human.
I just think people in T&T have more insight into life in general than what I was accustomed to previously. That's just my own subjective perception, and obviously I don't expect everyone to share it.
