There was a study done that found that prayer before surgery can benefit the patient. It was generally found that the hospital stay was shorter and the results of surgery better than those who did not have prayer. The key to the prayers though was that it had to be group prayer, which led research to wonder if it wasn't the support system that caused the patient to have a more positive outlook. In this thinking is the real power of prayer and faith I think, when people have a strong sense of religious community they will usually have a very strong support group to help them. This positive outlook will help a person through many problems.

Name: Shu
Comments: Of course it would lower stays. Any belief that people are doing something to help you will improve your condition. It's called the placebo effect. When people think they're being fixed, their body will fight stronger with the thought of 'backup' being not to far behind.
A christian receiving a faith healing is just as likely to receive a placebo effect as a person obsessed with astrology reading that their sign will have a 'healthy day' or a Hindu receiving a blessing, are a true believer in the flying spaghetti monster being presented a bowl of healing pasta. It doesn't matter WHERE the positive reinforcement comes from, just that it does, and that's likely to induce placebo effect.

Like I always say there are things that are just not meant to be and acceptance must come in place, is when you try to fight what you cannot change is when whatever lessons the Lord is trying to teach, are not learned.
