Stand Up Or Stand Down

Sometimes we read in the scriptures where some kind of injustice was being done and the Prophets or the Lord spoke out against it (money changers in the Temple, Captain Moroni and the Kingmen, Elijah and the Priests of Baal, Joseph and the man who offered up shouting prayers) - sometimes even in strong rebuke. On the other hand there were times where they remained very quite (Like a lamb to slaughter, Job, etc.) or even ignored the situation. The question is this... How do you which to be... stand up for what is right or be silent and let the wrong take its course?

I think we stand up for what is right unless we are specifically directed not to. Who was it that said the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing?

Gaucho, I very much agree with that, however let me express more what I mean with this example... let us say we were walking down the road and happened to see an incident where one person is stealing from another. Do we try to help and make it right even if it may end up becoming confrontational or do we say 'it is none of our business' and move on? This is just an example to point a direction on what I mean by stand up for what is right or stand down.

I do firmly believe to stand up for what is right, personally I believe it is part of my inner soul to be that way in the sense that if I see an injustice, I just cannot sit down still and pretend I'm not seeing it and that it is not my business, it is like a voice inside of me that moves me to say something or do something!, it is very strange but it is something beyond my control. I did experience this since I was a child when children at school will make fun of another child, I have always defend the other person even if I have never met the child before and I continue experiencing it nowdays.

Here is something to really question what you will do... let us say while walking down a street you witness a murder, the murderer sees you and immediately threatens to kill both you and your family if you say anything. What do you do - stand up or stand down?

In JB's murder example, I think you must stand up. What makes you think the murderer will trust that you are not going to turn him/her in? So, your life is definately in danger. If the police arrest him, you are safer than if you don't say anything.

I had an experience last week. I was sitting in my car at a stop light on my way to a client's office. I could hear a man yelling really awful things: "You are good for nothing! Stupid! I should have left you sitting there!" and on and on, and intermingled with lots of really foul language. I couldn't see where it was coming from, or at whom he was yelling. Finally, when the traffic moved, I could see the man in an old beat up car, and the only other person I could see in the car was a little boy in a car seat in the back. The way the traffic was at that point, I couldn't move over or see his license plate (he was behind me a couple of cars in the next lane) and he turned down a side street. I turned a block later to try to catch up to the car... but they were gone. My intent was to take his license plate number and report to police the abuse of a child. I can't get this out of my mind.

All I know is that it was an older blue sedan, 4 doors, and a man with dark hair and glasses shouting at a small boy. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for that car again.
