Questions About Christianity

Sometimes Intellectuals ask questions outside of the sphere you are ready or prepared for and the following page covers some of them:

https://www.leaderu.com/offices/schaefer/docs/questions.html

Here are some samples:

1. Who made God?
2. Doesn't the inherent subjectivity of morality prove that God does not exist?
3. How can a loving God send people to Hell?
4. Many non-Christians are offended by the "exclusiveness" of Christianity. Can anything be said in response?

Christianity Questions

Some of these explanations are simple pipe dreams that only pretend to give answers to questions. I debated for a couple days whether to respond, but since there are not intellectuals on the site that want to respond, I feel obligated.

4. Can god make a rock so big that he can't lift it?

God is omnipotent. But omnipotence does not mean that God can do literally everything.

As the shorter catechism says "God can do all His holy will."

God cannot sin...God cannot lie...God cannot change His nature.
God cannot deny the demands of His holy character.
God cannot make a square circle, for the notion of a square circle is self-contradictory.
God cannot cease to be God. But all that God wills and promises He can and will do.

Since God is omnipotent and nothing is beyond him, the entire idea of something God cannot do is and oxy moron. God can lie, and God can sin, he simply chooses not too because of his presumed perfection by Christians he is able to not do what we can not cease to do. Omnipotence does mean he can do anything, Webster defines it as such, Having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful. So the statement is incorrect, he can do anything and everything, literally.
QUOTE

E. People are attracted to moral subjectivism or relativism because it exonerates them of guilt. But the very fact that they so strongly desire to perceive themselves righteous betrays a commitment to moral realism.

Morality, no matter how you look at it is still dependant on your beliefs. Absolute morality for Buddhists and Muslims and Christians are all different. Each religion claims absolute moral superiority over the others and claims that God is on their side so they are right. Morality exists in the form that the person interprets it as. No one has no morals, just different morals. To claim that is not true is to believe that there is no way that you or your religion could be wrong and that would mean that humans in your religion interpreted what God told them perfectly, insinuating that a human was perfect.

6. Is the New Testament Picture of Jesus Reliable?
The grounds for accepting the New Testament as trustworthy compare very favorably with the grounds on which classical (Greek, Roman) scholars accept the authenticity and credibility of "reliable" ancient documents.
-F. F. Bruce (1912-), Distinguished English academic classics scholar, University of Manchester

These types of comments of the reliability of the new testament are based on studies by people who already believed it to be reliable. Anyone who would chose to study the new testament line by line can find, with ease, major problems with the reliability of the new testament. Specifics can be found in genealogies, time lines, teachings of Jesus compared to teachings of Paul. I have written complex detailed studies through line by line comparisons of every scripture in the new testament. It is not only reliable, but it is not the same story and is not the presentation of one single belief system.

As for the question that answers why Jesus had to have risen well........
The gospels where written by people who weren't there and created the accounts years later from stories handed down. The gospels are completely written in story like third person accounts. They cannot be eye witness accounts when you can tell what a person was thinking and you tell what was happening with Jesus when you first say that Jesus was alone. Either you are lying, or making it up, or both. Urban legends have formed in less time than the story of Jesus did in a time when science was none existent and superstition and relious leaders made the rules. Accounts of superstitious people handed down orally are not reliable and not even admissible as evidence in court and thus I won't accept them here either.

Questions About Christianity Revealed Bible The

Next section, did Jesus claim to be God. Yes, and No, and maybe. John 10 33"We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God." 34Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'[e]? 35If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came-and the Scripture cannot be broken- 36what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?
His explanation of why he can claim to be Gods Son is because the scriptures say we are all gods. All four gospels prove that Jesus made more statements that back that he wasn't God then he made that can be interpreted as him saying he is God.

QUOTE
10. Doesn't the uneven geographical distribution of Christianity around the globe prove that it must not be a universal truth?

No more that the uneven distribution of the understanding of calculus around the world proves that calculus is untrue.

It also doesn't prove that calculus or Christianity is true. The metric system is accepted true some places but another system is used in Europe. Thus both are technically right because they can both be used by the person who interprets that measurement and understanding. Understanding or lack of understanding is not an argument for or against anything.

For question and answer 13 on the website I say this, as much benefit Christianity has been, it has had at least as much or greater negative effect on the world. Islam and Christianity have cause the death of more languages, cultures, religions, and entire societies of people through crusades and inquisitions than any other religion know to man. They are the only two religions that insist on the conversion of everyone else as opposed to letting people find God for themselves.

QUOTE
14. How can a loving God send people to Hell?
The premise is correct. God loves us. But His love is strong, rather than weak and permissive.
The question should actually be, "How can a holy God let sinful people into heaven?" You can't simply camp out on God's love and forget His holiness.

God would surely be able to tell how good a person's heart is, and should be able to get past ignorance of an imperfect man and understand that man has and will continue to corrupt anything he sends to us through our imperfection. Thus he would show his ultimate ability to love HIS CREATION and not let them suffer. If you child hated you, would let him die because he hated you? Or would you rather comfort him and help him however you could simply because he is your son until the day he died. If we are Gods creation, then we are his children, and a loving Father would never allow a child to suffer for an eternity no matter what he did. The question is valid, the answer is oblivious to the biblical teaching that God is our Father and is blind to the way a father loves his children.

I shouldn't even justify question 17, but I will. We can't be good enough to get to heaven. But trusting one person gets us to heaven. Our loving father will say to us, you lived a great life helping many, but didn't trust Jesus, your out. You where a mass murderer, but you trusted Jesus at the end, you"re in. That would assume that how you live your life has no real bearing on your entrance to heaven, as long as you get it right before you die your good.

Question 18
QUOTE
D) Christianity's uniqueness arises not from the narrow-mindedness of individual Christians, but from the extraordinary claims of Jesus Christ, attested by those who were eyewitnesses of His life, death, and resurrection.

None of the gospels where eye witness accounts. Paul never met Jesus personally, and after killing Christians for a few years, suddenly becomes a Christian and introduces teachings that no one reports that Jesus taught. It's amazing what people will believe when they want too. This is the equivalent of Darwin suddenly saying God gave him a revelation and adding different precepts to Christianity and all of us accepting it without question.

Conclusion:
People who try and say that Christianities claims can be explained intellectually already believe before hand. The are completely blind to the other side of the argument and often don't even perceive what the other side of the argument is. Christianity is faith and belief alone. Christianity, and all other religions, are not based on intellect, logic, or emperical evidence. As long as others can accept that, I will not argue the point with them.

Christianity Questions

So therefore Christianity is no different than all the other religions on the planet today?
The man Jesus Christ, wasn't executed as a criminal? Physically died, then buried in a tomb?

Then supposedly went missing after three days? But then miraculously seen by some people? What was it the bible said over 500 witnesses? Also appearing to his disciples.

But then all of a sudden the credibility of the story, changes for some? He leaves the planet earth in bodily form, never to be seen again?

What did the Jewish Pharisees say, that he claimed to be the Messiah? Able to forgive sins?
That cannot be right, that's blasphemous right, he cannot be God?

Oh but how are we supposed to believe in the oral traditions of men? And how they interpreted the bible? But I thought the Hebrew Scribes were meticulous, in their writing?

Then it must come down to the reliability of the various religious Holy books. Like how many manuscripts survived until today? How many years had passed from the actual events, and the writing of the manuscript?

Do people in the world really care today anyhow? I certainly hope so.
