Following the death of his employer and mentor, Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas establishes himself as the number one importer of heroin in the Harlem district of Manhattan. He does so by buying heroin directly from the source in South East Asia and he comes up with a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. As a result, his product is superior to what is currently available on the street and his prices are lower. His alliance with the New York Mafia ensures his position. It is also the story of a dedicated and honest policeman, Richie Roberts, who heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government. Based on a true story.
A really good movie. It gives you an appreciation for the few that can accomplish so much despite the odds. The ironic thing about this movie is that one guy is trying to be the best bad guy he can be and the other is trying to be the best good guy he can be. Best of all its based on a true story and you know how those kinds of movies get you.
Denzel Washington is such an incredible and talented actor. He didn't disappoint in "American Gangster". The plot is very good and the acting is top notch. I am aware that the story portrayed in the movie is way more dramatic than the real one but still was an excellent film. The real Frank Lucas and his wife didn't learn their lessons because they still had problems with the law as far as 2011.
