I just saw this movie. To remain objective and not give anything away I will rate it by categories rather than as a whole. First off here is a site where you can get more info on it:
I thought this movie was great. Acting was awsome and I think it makes people want to read the Old Testoment. I mean you can take some of the carictors and look them up in the bible and understand there part here on earth.
I havent seen this movie yet, maybe its the purist in me that wont let me. I dont know quite where to begin, however I will say this. Keanu Reeves would never had been cast as John Constantine, not in a million years, if I had my way.
As for plot, well its very far removed from the original comics. I think you have to take it as a seperate entity, so as you are not too offended by it. The original comic series, whilst being a bit gruesome, is very interesting. It raises some great theological debating points. John constantine in my opinion is one of the greatest anti-heroes ever created.
Its just sad that with all of the fantastic comic book adaptations out there, they couldn't have done a better job with this one. Maybe one day I will bring myself to watch it.
John Constantine is approached by Det. Angela Dodson who needs his help to prove that her twin sister Isabel's death was not a suicide. The dead woman was a devout Catholic and Angela refuses to accept that she would have taken her own life. She's asked Constantine for help because he has a reputation for dealing with the mystical. In fact, he is a demon hunter whose sole purpose on Earth is to send demons back to the nether regions. John himself has been to Hell - as a young man he too committed suicide and now knows that he is destined to return there on his death - but hopes that his good deeds may somehow find him a place in Heaven.
