Too Personal

In a first time meeting with what seems to be a very friendly person introduced to you by another good friend you find yourself confronted by a topic that makes you very uncomfortable. What are some things you were asked before on a 'first meeting' that you could not believe the person was actually asking? How did you get out of it?

Personal Too

I am always amazed when people start asking me about how I make my money on the first meeting as though they are tax inspectors. For instance; 'Are you registered?', 'Do you have references?', 'Where did you start this business?', 'How long have you been studying this?' and so on and I am not even doing any business transactions with them!

It happened to me as well... but this kind of aggressive approach it has no positive effect on me( one would say that NO ONE has a positive feedback, but sometimes this kind of "attitude " give SOME results for the "friendly" interlocutor, especially in the sailing business)and I try to let them now that as soon as possible.

Personal Too

I don't think I ever had that problem. Usually when I meet somebody new and they ask me personal questions, I don't have a problem answering. I am very open about myself and my personality and I don't care whether any person knows the details of my life. If they ask the question then it most likely means that they are curious about me for some reason. Since I don't understand myself in the first place, maybe sharing more about me with them will help me understand myself.

In my opinion that is a very dangerous attitude to take since we live in a dangerous world where acts of fraud are ever prevalent. So, if a stranger wants to know intimate details about me then I would have to know the motive behind it. I have read stories from newspapers and on television about people usually being kidnapped, held for ransom, credit stolen, etc simply because someone who came in contact with them knew certain 'details' about their life.

I'm generally very very careful with anyone asking personal questions, particularly on the internet. If it is someone that I feel I know fairly well, then I would have to know their motive; if it is someone I don't really know, then caution is my response.

I've probably been more forthcoming about myself, my life, and my family in this forum than I have anywhere else!

If it is a stranger, definetly I would wonder why he/she is asking me such personal questions and I may think the person is either way too out of place or is up to something. Either way, it depends on how I "sense" the person at that moment, but I tend to be very general with most people, unless it is someone I really care about.

I am usually very guarded about my self when just getting to know people. I am also very blunt, I will tell some one if they are being to personal. If they cannot except that, then we will most likely stop being acquaintances. But most people are just embarrassed and back off a bit.
