I think people are nutty; I can't imagine naming my kid after the hill Cumorah. I once knew a man named Welcome -- I thought that was kind of cool. He was an older gentleman, and it just made me think that when he was born, his mother said, "Welcome, son..."

Of course, it's not limited to Utahns. smile.gif

What I have always had a problem with is names like:
Moriancumr
Mahoni

I know that others have noticed the trend people in Utah (and Idaho and Wyoming, etc) to combine names to create first names. One of my brothers has a name like that, and I have always felt sorry for him.

Names such as:
ElDean
LaVerle

When I get married, I won't insist on wacky baby names. But I do have a goldfish named Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz. She can name the kids, and I'll name the pets. Then everybody will be happy.

A goldfish named...wha? do you call her MshBaz for short? Yep. You name the fish, let the wife name the kids.. Although you may feel very strongly about your kids' names once they are born, I've seen that happen with new dads smile.gif

Actually, I call the fish Bob for short. And honestly, I probably will care quite a bit about my kids' names. I like using ancestors' names who deserve to be remembered and honored, or names with significant literal meanings. I don't particularly want a Junior, though, because that just gets confusing later.
