I haven't seen it. I suggested it once to my wife but she had no desire to see it when I told her what it was about. Besides, I think it's Rated R and she would refuse it on that basis alone.

Rather off topic, but...
Discussing the pros and cons of boycotting companies because of objectionable material is REALLY off topic. Just my very humble opinion (and it is VERY humble).

I looked at the review of this movie on imdb, and one person wrote:

QUOTE
As a gay RM, it moves me deeply every time I watch it more

Hmmm. Enough said.

And continuing on, this movie was rated R for "strong sexual content and language." How could you guys even entertain watching it?

Rather off topic, but...
I have seen some R-rated movies after first reading reviews and finding its value to be sufficient and the content not completely objectionable (or easy to skip), e.g., Bravehart, Patriot, Green Mile, but this movie seems to be way beyond the pale.

How could you be anymore self-righteous? Especially coming from someone who claims open mindedness?

I am not gay, I did not get any turn ons, I fast forwarded through any worthless scenes without losing my 'virginity', also I did learn a lot more about those who claim to be gay and want to be part of the Church. I guess someone has to 'sin' to make a descent review, I wonder how Clean Flicks manages.

I did not know you was my Bishop.

The movie was one of the saddest movies I ever saw, it breaks my heart to know there are members of the Church who struggle with these issues.

Rather off topic, but...

Honestly wasn't trying to judge you. Just that the reviews written almost made me want to vomit.

There are some things I have a very low "pain" threshold for. Profanity and overt sex are a couple.

Violence? I'm okay with that (cuz I figure I can just close my eyes). Actually, I'm even more comfortable with a "sex" scene, in a way, only because you can close your eyes. Profanity - you can't do anything about that. It just screams in your ears.

Interesting that you mention that because when I saw your previous signature that read: "What the #### is an RPG?" I was almost sure that those "####" was actually profanity not written. spock.gif

Since you only read the reviews and did not see the movie, maybe you are not the person to even try to give it a review?

Rather off topic, but...
Profanity for me is different as a non-native English speaker. Besides the "F" word that I hear everywhere, I do not know any "bad" words, the "F" word even does not mean anything to me because I do not feel totally connected to the language, now if is in Spanish is another matter. Nevertheless, I do not use it. The worst word I use is "stupid" and it makes me feel pretty bad when I do use it, my son reminds me though and says "Mommy, don't say the word stupid, is not good!" *laughs* .

Kiddies, let us stick with the actual Movie: Latter-Days.

This to me is the basic analysis:

1. If you have gay tendencies then DO NOT watch this movie.

2. If you have a friend who is gay and you are NOT, and are trying to understand how it all works then this movie MAY help you understand it better as in it being educational. You are advised to simply fast forward the graphic parts - I think there were two - one in the beginning and one somewhere in the middle.

I just now saw JB's reply.

I'll reiterate it again, that I did not intend it like: I wouldn't go see that, how could YOU.

It was more like, how could you stand to watch it? Not judging, just wondering. Hmmm.

Honestly, I find it very, very hard to watch two guys engage in anything intimate. That's just me. I'm completely repulsed by it. But beyond that, I explained how I feel about movies that have, hmm, shall we say "wild" scenes.

But, I agree, that's just me.

Scary, huh. But I have to admit, I believe the sin of engaging in homosexual acts to be WAY high on the immoral/perversity scale. I'd put it almost up there with sexual activity with animals. It's just my "natural" feelings. I don't think I was trained that way. While I do review things for another site, this is one movie that I could not stand to watch.

I would contrast that with Brokeback Mountain. While I did not watch it because I have no desire to support anything entertaining those sexual activities (or that political viewpoint, that it should be condoned), I just really don't have the stomach for it.

But, ironically, I can see voting for a "good" gay man over a "crooked" straight man. Don't know if that makes sense. I guess I just assume the gay man can separate his sexual activities from his political/legal judgments.

Now that made me laugh. When I saw the imdb reviews, there were quite a few raving reviews from people on how moving this was, and touching, and so forth. How they loved it emotionally. From the reviews of you two, I got the complete opposite reaction.

Um.

No.

I didn't think that you were gay.

Rather off topic, but...
Please be kind and merciful as the GM!

Saw your post after I wrote this very long reply. My apologies but I'm quiet now.
