A dangerous distraction?

Dashboard Television

Some vehicles are fitted with a dashboard TV, but it can only be activated when the handbrakes are in place to ensure the driver is not moving. However, some people install their own which is available all the time. It can prove hazardous as the driver does not merely listen, but can also look away to view what is on the screen. What is your view?

Television Dashboard

Having a dashboard TV that can be used when the car is moving is very dangerous in my opinion and should be outlawed. I've never understood why someone would want to watch television or a movie while they are driving. With the low cost of portable DVD players these days, it is very easy to get one of those for those on the passenger side without having to install a unit that distracts the driver.

I think they should be outlawed in the front seat, but be allowed to be installed in the back. I know my sister absolutely loves theirs because it keeps the kids distracted when they're driving. It's installed in the back, though, so it isn't a distraction for the driver. If the driver wanted to watch it, it would ensure that they would have to not be moving and be in the backseat to do so. Which, in a sense, would be pointless unless you're camping out on the side of the road. smile.gif

I think they're great for occupying other passengers, but when it become a threat, it should be in a position where the driver would not even be tempted to try to watch it at the same time as moving.
