Unlike most RPGs, you create the outcome through your own writing skills with very little intervention from the GM. You must have RPG Status to participate. To get RPG Status just make 30 or more Constructive Posts in the Community then ask for it in your Intro Thread.

This Dramatist role,

Rules & Explanation

spock.gif The rules of this game are VERY SIMPLE. If you played Medieval or Future Earth Role-playing Game on this forum then you know that Role-playing Game rules can sometimes be complexed, but not on this Role-playing Game board. Read on...

Simply put, you create a character that exists in present day life and you then try to help that character find love, riches, or just plain survive!

The Game Master starts a thread, gives a detail situation and then everyone simply posts what they do, what they say, etc. There is no intervention from the Game Master except...

- A player starts to be rude
- You are posting inappropriate content (No graphic descriptions of abuse, assault, killing, sexuality, etc.)
- Makes up impossible situations that are not available
- There is a conflict between players

Now at any unannounced part of a thread the Game Master will make a post and everyone has to react based on that post. For instance, while everyone is talking in a room the Game Master might suddenly post a message saying that a robber just entered and asks for everyone's money!

How does someone win?
Sometimes the situation will decide or the group will decide. For example, lets take the same situation above with the robber, after the robber leaves the Game Master could then post a message saying that all players should email him saying who they thought was the worst player or who handled it the worst. The Game Master then adds up the votes and 'kicks' a player out of the game. Last player in the game wins!

So basically your charm, wit and brains is what will save you in this Role-playing Game board, not sword and shield.

This Dramatist role,

So where do I start?

1. Well you must have have a certain number of Core Posts in this Community and your status must be changed by the administrator to Role-playing Game . See: Love & Life Bytes Create Character Here thread for more specific details.

2. Create your character by going here: HERE
Instructions are also on that page. Make sure to read them properly.

3. When your character is created you can jump in the current or next game via an introduction from the Game Master. Example: A game has already started but you want to enter, if it is possible then the Game Master will post a message saying the name of the new character and that he/she enters the room. After that you begin posting as normal.

This Dramatist role,

Q. I need further help to understand how to play this game. Can you give me an example of what I can do, see or say?

A. Sure, first of all I will give you the DOs...

1. Do be expressive as you can
2. Do interact with characters
3. Do use ONLY the information given to you from the GM about surroundings and items you have on your character.
4. Do realise that this game involves posting your imagination away, so that means say anything you like. (within rules of course)

Now the DON'Ts...

1. Do not invent something that the GM did not say was there. For example if the GM says you are in an empty room with no doors, then that is all you have to work with. Do not start saying you see a TV, you hear music playing, etc. If you do say these things the GM will assume you are in a stats of delusion or dreaming since the GM never said anything about the 'new' items you described.
2. Don't try to change the storyline. For instance if it is winter, then you can't suddenly say it is summer.
3. Don't invent background information about your character that is not IN AGREEMENT with your 'job' or description. For instance, if you are a gardener, it is unlikely you know how to perform an operation as a surgeon.
4. Don't rush the GM to post a response. The idea behind this kind of RPG is to have as little intervention from the GM as possible so that he can make 'surprise' entrances with information. The GM INTENTIONALLY may not respond to several posts to 'frustrate' characters into saying what they are doing as time passes. This should be easy as the GM will not put you in a situation that needs his intervention unless you are attacking another character for some reason.
5. Don't say your character is going to do anything horrid, or sexual in nature. This would go against the rules of 'posting for a child to read'

Lastly, please see sample story below.

This Dramatist role,

SAMPLE STORYLINE

Characters: Lori, a secretary and Jill, a dentist

Situation presented by GM: Lori and Jill were captured by the local metal institution based on a false tip that they were mentally disturbed. They were given an injection to make them sleep. They wake up to kind themselves in a closed padded room with a heavy metal door and no windows. They get up.

Jill: Lori are you ok? There is nothing in here, what do we do? I am scared.

Lori: I am ok, I don't know what to do, we do not have anything on us and I just see a padded room.

Jill: I wonder if we can pull the padding off? Should we pound on the door?

Lori: You can try and see if you get a response. I tried the padding but it did not seem to work. My mom told me stop hanging with you, now look at the trouble we are in!

Jill: So now its my fault? Did I force you to hang with me? I think you just like my popularity!

Lori: Go wash your face! Anyways, lets not fight, its not going to help the situation. Any thoughts? Wait! I just thought of something! Where is the toilet!?

This Dramatist role,

Q. Sometimes I may want my character to do something and need the GM's response, will he respond right away?

In Medieval and Future Earth he would respond right away if 'party order' is set, but in Love and Life Bytes the GM responds as little as possible.  The GM does look at posts and what you want to do, BUT unless something major happens he will not intervene.

Here is a good example. Let's say your character is in the middle of a desert looking for water, you may say that your character wants to go East to look for water, if there is no response from the GM then we will assume that you did not find water, the GM does not have to come and post saying "You did not find water". If however your character were to find water, the GM would say so. It would be incorrect of a player to say that their character 'sees' water if the Gm did not say so.

This is where the imagination comes in, you and the rest of the group will need to respond and 'act' based on thirst. Maybe you are looking in the wrong place? Maybe you need to do something different. The GM will never intentionally send your character to 'die', try to be resourceful with what you have.

This Dramatist role,

DICE!

To help assist with dice rolls for games you may be asked to 'roll' for your character. How is that done? Via your profile at the top of the page you will see 'Go to Dice'. Click on it and then roll!' Your score will be shown and recorded along with other RPGers. The GM will then use this for game play. Have fun and make sure to blow before you roll. *LOL*

This Dramatist role,

Character Roles without the GM

I would like to emphasize as above that this game is based on as little intervention from the GM as possible. Another way you can see this RPG is like a normal discussion thread... except that instead of being yourself, you post the way your character would react to the given situation or responses of other characters. That is your opportunity to become creative, because instead of the GM giving you the storyline, you give it.

Here are some examples...

Three people are in a diner eatting. One player says that they begin to chew their food with their mouth open just to be bad. The other player may start to argue the importance of good manners and yet the another player might say how freedom to act is an important part of agency.

Just that one conversation can last several pages if done in a creative manner without waiting for the GM to come save you from boredom. Again, the responsibility of creativity in this board is on the players and not the GM.

This Dramatist role,

Multiple Characters

Q. Can I play in this game as well as another?
A. Depends, see: Love & Life Bytes Create Character Here Thread for more details.

Q. What happens if I leave the game without notice to play in other Role-playing Games here or simply because I was busy?
A. You will lose RPGer status and you will need to make a Donation to get it back. Consider - you need RPGer Status to play in ANY of the other Role-playing Games managed by JB. (This does not include the Member Wars Board)

Q. Why do I have to make a Donation to get RPGer status back if it is free?
A. In the past Members took on more than they could chew and most ended up leaving this Board behind for the World of Medieval game. To prevent this players must decide they do want to genuinely participate as many man hours are being spent to create this facility. Yes it is free, but if you cannot appreciate it then Pay to Play.
