Posting links to External Web Sites

spock.gif This thread should not be used to post your links. It is ONLY a guide as to how, when and where you can post links to your external web site.

Q. Where can I post a link to an external site that is advertising something?
A. As a general rule Post No Links!. There is a Classifieds board, but it still must fall within our Rules. See: About Posting Classified Ads.

Q. Why does a frame appear when I post a link to an external link?
A. To ensure members understand that the external link is not related to the forum.

Q. When would posting a link in a thread be okay?
A. Only when it is used for reference. In other words... You just quoted an article and want to show where you got it from for copyright or deeper search such as on CNN, Wikipedia, etc. You need a significant number of Posts before the system will allow you to Post any links.

Q. My link was removed... Why?
A. Your linked site should not be in competition with any of our services... Neither should it point to anything that is against board policy such as porn, racial or political hate, etc.

Please see all the rules, but the safest way to go is to post NO links as it says upon registration.

Q. Do you have a place where I can expose my link?
spock.gif You can purchase a Banner Ad or use the Classifieds.

Q. Where do I find information on the rules and posting links?
Here! Also: Members are obligated to check updates and the rules to ensure they are participating in the correct manner. There has been a change to the rules to include posting physical addresses and phone numbers to commercial sites.

Q. So I cannot post phone numbers or addresses?
No! There should be no reason to do this unless it is a non-commercial help center of sorts: Fire / Police, etc.

In case you are unfamiliar with frames... Below is an example of what you will see if you click on an link that points to an external link.

Q. How do I get rid of that frame once I am viewing an external site?
A. Click the link that says 'Close this Message'

Q. What is the link about reporting abuse for?
A. If a member posts a link to a commercial web site outside of the Classified boards or something against forum policy such as scams, porn, etc. Then that is a violation.

Q. I placed a link that was giving helpful information about a related topic, is that okay?
A. Yes, (see first message in this thread) so long as you also posted your own personal observations or continued the topic of discussion rather than just posting a link that would lead others away from the forum, after all, we want to keep people here, not send them away. Also the link should post the EXACT reference you have quoted or the subject matter and not a general link. Note, some members may have an informative web site and feel that they can post links to it constantly - this is not allowed and is a form of spam.

Q. Can I link to another thread in the site that is relevant to a topic?
A. Yes, of course, but again, this should be as a matter of reference or in other words... With some explanation as to why you want to lead viewers away to see another thread.

Q. Will the external frame appear for an in-house link?
A. No, it should not, if does, please do contact us.

Q. Do other boards handle external links differently?
A. More or less the rules apply for all boards, but in the LDS Deep Doctrine board the READ ME thread has some additional guidelines.
