[movie] Because Of Winn-dixie

What a movie! I took my daughter to see this movie this afternoon. It just opened yesterday, and the theatre was full. We both felt it was excellent! In order to comment further, here is what Yahoo movies had to say: "Based on the perennial best-seller, a lonely young girl (Opal) adopts an orphaned dog, Winn-Dixie (so named for the supermarket where she found him), who helps her make friends in the small Florida town. The bond between the girl and her special companion brings together the townspeople and helps heal her own troubled relationship with her father. AnnaSophia Robb is adorable in her role and she acted so well in this movie, portraying such a wide range of emotions. Opal and Winn-Dixie both "...want the same thing; they want somebody to love and somebody to love them. And, as a team, they begin to realize that other people just might want the same things." (rottentomatoes.com) Jeff Daniels is also very convincing as her grieving, lonely father, who is also the town's Baptist preacher. You find out in the course of the movie what has happened to Opal's mother, and I was very surprised at how 'deep' the movie was, provoking strong emotions from most of the people in the theatre we were in. The small town where they live is, "...a place where people have forgotten how to share their sadness and their joy." (rottentomatoes.com) The movie is both very funny and sweet, but it is also sad in places and would be hard for young children to sit through certain parts, in my opinion. It is a movie for more mature children. I was glad that I didn't have my 10 and 6 year old boys with me for those reasons.

Winn-dixie Of movie

Because of Winn-Dixie was originally a book published in 2000 and has been a best selling childrens book every year since. Winn-Dixie is recommend for children ages 9-12, so I would logically assume that the movie would be the same.

The book has won both a Newbury Honor award and a Josette Frank Award. Both awards where in 2001.

The Book received 4 and a half out of five starts. I have given all the information about the book because good movies are often derived from good books. In this case, the book that the movie is based off of is a multi-award winning book which makes it worthy of seeing.
