Ender's Game - Page 2

QUOTE
By the way, when is the Shadow of the Giant going to be released?

Really soon - March 8.

So very true, in my opinion, the speaker of the dead series is not as exciting of a sequel to Ender's Game compared to the shadow series.

It may not be as exciting, but I personally prefer Speaker of the Dead and its sequels, since they are much more realistic and involve thorough characterization. The whole idea that children will rule the Earth does not seem very realistic to me. Surely they can, but will the adult world accept it so easily?

Yes, the adult world could and did. Even though Ender's army were only adolecents, they had already gained the entire world's respect because they had defeated the most evil of enemies. Thus, when the other children of the Battle School also gained world prestige for attending the same school as Ender. So the planet by majority at least excepted the children as rulers of the world.

I understand what you mean, but the fact that the battleschoolers had gained the entire world's respect is a bit unrealistic. No matter how famous you are, there always will be some people who loathe you. Also, wouldn't some adults envy all of these children that are just coming out of nowhere and suddenly are ruling the world?

Well, if you really think about it, the only children that actually had a larger leadership position were Alai, Peter and Achilles, of which only Alai was a battle school graduate. The other graduates, were mostly used in strategic positions, not as leaders, which makes sense, because that's basically what they learned at battle school.

It may be just me, but there are very few adults mentioned in the book who were competing with the children. I know there are only three kids in power, but the fact that they were the only ones mentioned made you think they were the only ones involved.

In shadow of The Giant (you can read the first three chapters at www.hatrack.com), more and more children gain control, but I thought he did a better job in making it real, because he kept on stressing the fact that the power some of them had did not mean much.

Ender's Game

Well, it seems to me that the entire world was brainwashed from birth becuase of the bugger videos. With the hegemony in place, the world excepted one man as the ruler of the entire planet. Now, the with the alien threat eliminated, countries want their independence and global power back. Thus the adults will use the children, who are easily manipulated, to their full advantage. Why compete with something you can control?

I am almost finished with Enders Shadow. I read Enders game and now Enders Shadow.

Ender not being beaten was not really a bad thing. Because in the end they wore him out so much. He felt beaten. And if you think about it.. Were the buggers really all in all that bad..?

I feel so sorry for Bean... sad.gif

You should read the Speaker for the Dead and its sequals. It talks a lot about that question exactly, whether the buggers were really that bad.

That is actually a pretty good summary of what has happened. The adults really want to control the children, but they should have known better than to think they'll succeed. rolleyes.gif
