A lot of times modern composers tend to be overshadowed by the classics like Mozart, Bach, etc. Do you have a particularly favorite modern composer?
I absolutely adore John Williams. Every thing he has ever written has such a full and rich sound. For those who may not know, he did music for ET, Jaws, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and many many more. He's written music for over eighty films.

I'm also gaining an interest in Howard Shore who did the music for all three Lord of the Rings movies. He also wrote music for Gangs of New York as well as some others. I really like the unique sound that his music produces. Just like John Williams, I can just hear something and tell that it's him.

Good question, and you are right. Many of the modern day composers are blurred out by the founding fathers of music from a completely different era. As good as they are, we should recognize the composers of our time.
I would have to say that the most recognized modern day composer in my life would be Nobuo Uematsu. He writes music for many of the Final Fantasy themes. Morning Glow from FFX-2 is absolutely moving.
