I can't stand notepad and wordpad, although it looks nice, adds a lot of extra code to your precious text when editing a script or file. One of the best I have found as a replacement for NotePad is Edit Pad Lite. It is available for free and has many features.

As an update to this thread most wonder how to replace the Window's NotePad with this one.
1. Right click on any Windows NotePad Icon
2. Select 'Open With' and then 'Choose Program' (if Edit Pad is not listed as option)
3. A list of programs will load select 'Edit Pad'
4. Tick the box that says to always open this file with this program (or something like that)
5. Click 'Ok'
The computer will then change all the Windows NotePad icons to Edit Pad and when you click on a plain text document Edit Pad will open instead of the boring Window's default.
I have used many different type text editors and after downloading this one I really think I am going to enjoy it a lot. I love how the tab bar allows me jump between files. This will really be a nice feature while working on web pages.
