Manning Hoping For Local Catholic Head

Manning is stepping in where he does not belong in my opinion. How can he get up and say that he hopes to see a Local having the status of Archbishop in the Catholic Church rather than a foreigner. What do you think, was he meddling in Religion as a Head of State?

I know why he said that because sometime ago I was talking with a lady about it who shared her view and the view of many Trinidadians. The last Archbishop they had here was a Trinidadian and of course, when the guy passed away (?) of left I don't remember now, they called this American guy to replace him. Trinis were upset about it because they thought they were going to put a local, but when they brought the American guy some Trinis started thinking that the Catholic Church think that only a 'white skin' guy is appropiate for the calling than a brown skin one....after all they reasoned, why are you going to call a guy all the way from the States, when you have people right here in Trinidad more than ready to become Archbishop?. You know how Trinis are with the race issue rolleyes.gif What Manning said is the feeling of many locals.

Although it may be the inner feelings of many Trinidadians I do not think as a Head of State he should make such sentiments in an official capacity, and more so especially when addressing a gathering. There should be a separation between Church and State, but here it seems that separation is 'oh so thin'.
