What Does Christmas Mean To You?

EDITORIAL: THE HOPE THAT IS CHRISTMAS

In Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's moving poem, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," he begins by lamenting as to how the message of the season seems lost on the world. "For hate is strong and mocks the song/ Of peace on earth, good will to men."

You To Christmas What

I think the true meaning of Christmas can easily get lost in all the gift giving. I so enjoy the excitement of my grandson while he eagerly awaits the arrival of Santa, that I have to remind myself often that Santa isn't really what the focus should be.

In fact, as I am typing this I turned to my grandson and just asked him why we celebrate Christmas to make sure he remembered. He did. smile.gif

Yes, I was thinking the same thing when Felipe was opening his gifts today, although I found he was excited about the gifts and the toys and stuff, he played with them a little bit, all he wanted to do was spend time with us...smile.gif

He has not reach the stage where he can understand why we celebrate Christmas...but even though he does not, I continue talking to him about the Savior's birth. I think it is very important.

Christmas mean to me a miracle. The miracle of the birth of the Only Begotten of the Father. The Savior of the world. How different this world would be if we could remember Christmas Day all year around!.

You To Christmas What

Christmas is about honoring the birth of the Messiah, and remembering what that means to us as Christians. How different would the world be without this miracle? How different would we all be?

In addition, for me, Christmas is a time for gathering with family; for remembering the poor and needy, the sick and afflicted; for reaching out and doing what we can to help others.

You To Christmas What

To me, Christmas is the chance for everyone in my family to get together. The chance for us to catch up, laugh, and enjoy each others company. We don't all get together very often, and Christmas affords us that opportunity. I think that we get so busy in the year, we forget to think about those close to us and make sure to call and see how they are doing. Christmas renews the family bond that fades away throughout the year for some of us.

What Does Christmas Mean To You?

I always promise myself not to ruin anyone else's holiday season. But for me Christmas is another day that Big Business has commercialized to make big profits no more no less. Means very little as my family has been separated/divorced so many times (not me as I have yet to marry for that reason) we never really had a family get togather.

One day when I'm married and have kids I'm sure it will unfreeze this cold heart of mine and turn the holiday season back into a wonderful time of year tongue.gif

What Christmas To You

Pure and simple... a time of giving, wether it be nothing, something or a lot of things, service, a smile, a thought, an act of kindness to family or others it is up to the individual, but that is what Christmas means to me.
