Introduction Vincenzo
I was there on a project for 3 weeks at the end of May and beginning of June. We have lived in Japan before (me for 5 years - 3 years ago, my wife for 9 year - 3 years ago), so we pretty much know what to expect. She speaks fluent japanese, english, korean and chinese, so my barely passable attempts at language can be smoothed over by her.
Taiwan was really easy to adjust to as the people there are very friendly and fairly open. Work/business is conducted close to that you see in the US, with a few different twist. The Taiwanese will get to be more friendly with you and you can actually become a extended part of their family if you become good friends.
Japan is really a close society. They like westerners, but we will not become part of their family or really even their community. We are visitors and it really doesnt matter how good you speak the language. So, it helps if you are near other foreigners that you can interact with outside of work. The good part is that nearly everyone is polite and you are very safe in this country.
Korea is basically in the middle but moving closer to Taiwan with time.
