The saddest thing is that Hawaii since 2007 became the 48th state with a baby safe haven law so the mother of this baby didn't have to leave her in the beach like she did.

Just a hypothesis but suppose the mother didn't leave the baby there? It could be something more to it like a kidnapping or murder and the baby was just left there because they didn't want any involvement.

Maybe the mother was just ignorant about the laws and rules that would protect her identity and was afraid of the scandal that the baby would have caused in the community if, for example, was an illegitimate child or a child born from an unmarried couple. In some communities, the power of social judgment is so strong that I would not be surprised to discover that the father of the new mom was the man forcing her to abandon the child.

There is a twist in this case with probably a long story behind it. This is what I read from USA today this morning;

Yes, Element, I agree with you: there's probably a long story behind. The short update you quoted above creates openings for any kind of theory. In a few days we will maybe learn more about this case. By now is not easy to imagine the reason why a woman should abandon her baby just to pretend she found him few hours after (if is true that she ever abandoned the baby, of course), except if that was intended as a way to give her own child in custody without having to answer too many questions.
