Cars 2nd To The USA

Some weeks ago on TV6 they had a report about the number of cars located in Trinidad and the roads being able to handle all the traffic. A senior traffic officer reported that in Trinidad the ratio is 2.7 people per car, in the USA it is 2 people per car and in Canada it is 3 people per car. So on a global scale Trinidad & Tobago is only second to the US in the number of cars per person.

Do you think there are too many vehicles on the roads in Trinidad & Tobago? What do you think would be a good plan to control the traffic and congestions?

USA To nd Cars

When I used to live in T&T back in '94, I didn't think there was a problem with congestion and too many cars on the road. In fact, a lot of my friends took Maxi's and Taxi' to and from school. I guess that must have changed in the last 10 years or so. Here in the US it is not uncommon for a household consisting of a mother and father, and 2 children of driving age, having 4 cars altogether. For those still in Trinidad, is this also the case?

Oh yes, way too many!!! specially in Port of Spain.

Build proper roads and highways and try to do somethig about those narrow streets everywhere! oh my gosh...they are unbelievable narrow.

It depends whether they are middle class or rich but almost anybody gets a BRAND NEW car (its very easy to get one through credit) even if they have a salary of 1,200 TT a month they are driving a vehicle that costs $120,000TT!...don't ask me how is that possible, I still trying to figure it out.
