Social Security in the red this year:
Social Security will pay out more this year than it gets in payroll taxes, marking the first time since the program will be in the red since it was overhauled in 1983, according to the annual authoritative report released Thursday by the program's actuary. Ref. Source 5
It has been my belief that if the people of this great nation demands that congress be made to be in social security like the rest of us then it will be full funded and in the black for years and years to come. With congress having their own retirement program that is totally separate then social security they tap into the funds that were meant for us taxpayers like it was candy for their taking.

President Obama "cannot guarantee" that Social Security, veterans and disability checks will be issued if Congress cannot agree on a deal that would raise the government's debt ceiling by August 2nd, he tells CBS News.
"I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said in an excerpt of the interview released by CBS.
