They didn't have all the modern facilities that ships have today either like electricity and lots of fresh water for shower's etc. Just imagine being in a storm with just wooden parts all around you.

Bigger designs and better wood workmanship would have resulted in further deep sea fishing. That's why natives at the time only fished near shore, their boats were never bigger than 20 feet and they were made mostly for 4-8 people.

Fishermen Medieval

It must be very hard to catch fish for those Medieval fishermen without any modern technology to help them out. No wonder so many fishermen died because sometimes there is always a storm appearing often on the sea and because of these storms the fishermen drown.
