I remember someone telling me "stick and stone may break my bones but words have never hurt me". Then again that person has never been hit by a dictionary.
It does not matter where you are. In real life or in cyber life the way words are put together whether spoken or typed out can be hurtful to someone somewhere. Trying to keep someone not offended can be a major undertaking. I just hope that I can go through life offending less people.
People get offended when they take issues personally or when others make the issue personal. Discussing issues shouldn't be personal. You can get offended by someones stance on something though. In turn, especially in issues of race, its hard not to become personally engaged in the discussion.
Ok, I have run across a little thing on this forum that really bugs me...
I'm RLDS, currently known as "Community of Christ".
And when I go to look at certain topics, I'm blocked because I'm not LDS.
It's sort of like having a cousin slam the door in your face because you're
not wearing the correct clothes.
