Have you ever been on a ship or boat as a means of transportation? It surely isn't as fast and efficient as a plane, but it is much more fun and relaxing to smell the fresh air and listen to the waves of the sea. Unless you are sea sick, that is

While I was in England and Germany, I used both forms of transportation. I took a boat across the English Channel on my own one summer, as I visited the Netherlands, Germany, and France. While travelling around those countries, I used the train system. I also used the trains quite a bit in England.
At various other times, we also used both the trains and the ferry. I absolutely loved it every time.
As far as I am concerned, trains are the very best way to travel, unless time is a real constraint. With a train ride, you can see the countryside, and not have to worry about driving. It is easier to get up and walk around, etc as well.
I took the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and back once. I have also been on smaller boats in both lakes and ocean. I am fine in a lake, but in the ocean, I get seasick, unless the boat is moving. I have never been on a boat big enough to really be called a ship. Maybe some day, I will go on a cruise. It will probably need to wait until I strike it rich, though.
