Janet And Ramon Barreto
I just saw this TERRIBLE case in America Most Wanted and all I could do is cry. We NEED to find these two so PLEASE keep your eyes open and feel free to share this thread with ALL your friends and family. The account is so chilling, I won't be able to sleep properly until these two are found and put to death!
QUOTE On May 17, 2008, Janet and Ramon Barreto brought their two year-old adopted daughter Enna to the hospital. They said she fell out of a shopping cart, but doctors soon discovered this wasn't the truth. The little girl had severe head and body trauma that was more consistent with a car wreck than injuries sustained from a fall. When Enna was medevaced to a children's hospital in Memphis, doctors called the Union County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Human Services.
Poor little Enna died the next day, and when police went to arrest the Barretos, they'd already left the hospital. Cops say the couple did make contact with police, but remained evasive about their whereabouts. A warrant was issued for their home.
When cops arrived to the fenced-in property, they immediately heard a cacophony of barking sounds. Behind the Barreto's house was a large puppy mill with 187 dogs, over 50 cats, and some ducks. The animals were filthy, some so matted with fur and feces that they couldn't even move. There was a breeding trailer where sickly mother dogs were forced to give birth to litters of puppies on top of mounds of their own feces. Police said the smell was almost unbearable.
The house itself was a doublewide trailer painted a cheery white. Inside was a different story. When police entered the residence, cockroaches scattered and fell from the ceiling. Rotten food, feces, and diabetic Janet's insulin needles littered the floor. The smell was so overpowering, the officers had to leave to get face masks.
Janet and Ramon Barreto, Janet's seventeen year-old daughter Marainna Torres, and the couple's biological daughter baby Janet, 6, lived in the main trailer. There was a room down the hall that had a wire tied around the doorknob from the outside, locking it. The room was empty.
Then cops made a terrible discovery. In a small breezeway further down the hall was another door locked from the outside. When they cut the lock, they discovered that a single-wide trailer was attached. In the small room were seven cribs, three on one side, four on the other. Some cribs had plywood bottoms, others had spring-exposed mattresses. Dirty diapers, rotting food, and human filth covered the floor and crib bottoms. Tiny brown handprints were imprinted on the crib bars....

What I didn't catch from this sad story was how they came to have the seven adopted children? Also the Barretos had two of their own children. Besides the one girl in prison what happened to the other?

Not sure but police are investigating, apparently they had adoption papers for a couple of them and not for the rest. They're trying to figure out if they crossed them by the border and how they did or if these kids were stolen.
The 2 year old that was murdered was apparently also sexually assaulted. At the time the story broke out, Janet Barreto was pregnant (yes another child or probably MORE children are being abused as I type this). She also has the teen daughter who is in jail and a 6 years old. Some reports also indicated she has an 8 year old boy.

I am researching that at the moment. I will update if I find the information.

I saw this case in AMW yesterday and researched a bit about this case and got a reason why they adopted so many kids:
QUOTE NEW ALBANY - A psychological evaluation of Janet Barretos suggests why she wanted to adopt seven foreign-born infants within a short time span.
"She believed that the more children she had," wrote Dr. Louis Masur III, 'the more love she could give and get.
"She felt that she was compensating for not being loved as a child."
Janet and Ramon Barreto of Union County are accused of responsibility in the manslaughter death of their 2-year-old adopted daughter, Enna, at the hands of Janet's biological child, Marainna Torres, on May 17, 2008.
They also are charged with multiple counts of child endangerment and abuse in the rearing of seven other adoptive children, most 2-3 years old when Enna died.
They pleaded not guilty to all charges and are awaiting developments in their case, which has not been set for trial.
But Torres pleaded guilty July 2 to manslaughter by culpable negligence. She has not been sentenced.
Masur of Baldwyn examined Barreto at Farese's request.
In his five-page Dec. 31 report, Masur said Barreto reported 'serious abuse" by her first two husbands, her first marriage at age 14 and the second at 19.
Nine years later, she and Barreto married and she said they have been happy. She also reported a family history of depression and other mental illness.

As an update on this case, the daughter of Janet and Ramon Barreto was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her part in the the death of 2 year old Ena Barreto. However, fifteen years of the sentence were suspended and the judge is also counting the two years she has been in jail. The defense attorney says he expects her to be out of prison by the time she turns 21 (in two more years). Her parents still fugitives.

What an awful story. I don't think they'll be underground for too long, because their depravity they require with the abuse on children and animals will make them need to come out sooner or later. I just hope its sooner. Those poor kids. And yes, I feel for the 17 yr old as well. What atrocities she must have been a part of. It just doesn't bare thinking about.

I was glad to hear the Judge took consideration the kind of life the 17 year old (abused herself) went through. I hope by the time this kid turns 21, she can start over a new life far away from these sick individuals called "parents".
