Are You Fat? Try Fidgeting!

THE FIT TEND TO FIDGET, BUT THE FAT WILL SIT STILL

Overweight people have a tendency to sit, while lean ones have trouble holding still and spend two hours more a day on their feet, pacing around and fidgeting, researchers are reporting in findings published Friday.

I have to take issue with this claim. I am over weight and I fidget and move constantly to the point of being hyper. Either my leg is moving, or my fingers are tapping, or I'm up walking around when not working issues. I also cant sit still while talking on the phone. With all this movement and energy, it provided me with allot of energy for sports when I was younger, but now gets annoying at times. Yet I am still over weight by almost a hundred pounds. So this may be a likely hood statement, but its definentely not the rule.

Well the only time I feel fat is when I am really happy. My countenance is great and I feel great. I do continue with fitness programs...it is more burning fat than losing weight, as you all know that muscle is heavier than fat!

I work in IT which means that I sit all day long staring at a computer screen and talking on the phone. Our company had once thought about implementing wireless headsets so that we wouldn't be tied down to our desks, but it meant too much interference with the wireless LAN technology. Plus it was too expensive. I do fidget a bit, but not enough, in my opinion, to be considered activity that would help in weight loss. In fact, since I started this job 6 years ago, my weight has gone up drastically from when I was in college walking from class to class, etc. I live close enough to my work, but with the weather here in Minnesota, I can only think about walking during the Spring and Summer times. My plan is to be more active now that the weather is warming up, but I need to find activities that I can do during the winter months as well.

This could also be a result of you getting older. As we age, our metabolism slows at the same time we tend to become less active. Not just walking back and forth to class, but we also don't play softball, go to the gym, play pick up games of basketball or football, etc.

I think fidgeting helps because you burn calories, but I don't think that is enough to keep someone trim. I think genetics definately plays a part in weight as well as how much you eat and how much you exercise. The genetics part will have a say in how much you can eat and how much you need to exercise to stay trim.

Are You Fat? Try Fidgeting!

Last semester my only job was sitting in front of a computer. With that and my school work, I was constantly sitting or halfway laying, as I have a tendency to do while doing homework. It urked me because I didn't have time to do anything active.

Over the Summer and this semester, since I work with children, I am always on the go. My resting time is in classes. I'm on my feet moving around helping the girls with their homework during our homework time. Then, during programs, I'm on my feet teaching and leading them in whatever activity we may have. After that, we usually go outside and let them play, and I like to get involved with the girls and play with them outside. So, I'm running around playing tag with them. (Which definately has proven to me that I'm getting old.)

I'm not overwight, but I'm certainly not a thin rail. I need to get back in the habit of working out again.

If I am sitting, my leg is either shaking or my hands are moving or tapping or something. I cannot sit still at all. Even when I'm trying to go to bed, my toe is tapping until I eventually fall asleep.
