I was asked about a doctrine that my church believes in and I feel that there are many questions and at times misconceptions about what Mormon's believe. For this reason, I wanted to let anyone who is interested in learning more about the basic beliefs of a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that they can go to mormon.org for information. I will be adding more to this thread about some specific questions that I think that I can adequately answer. Thanks.

Thank you dawn, I have followed the links you put up and found alot of good information! I appreciate you and other LDS members helping us non believers learn a bit!
On that same note, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gave me my copy of the Book of Mormon free! How cool was that!
Actually, the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. It is also the record of the Jaredites and their journey to south america. You can go to the LDS website and get a free copy of the Book of Mormon. Its really quite an interesting read if your a religious explorer as I am. Just type in "free book of mormon" on google and you will get to the right page.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (also known as Mormons), I can tell you that our church teaches us to believe in The Bible. We are taught that it, "...testifies of Jesus Christ and has influenced and sustained millions of His followers. It is a collection of sacred writings containing God's revelations and accounts of His dealings with His children... the books of the Bible were written by and about prophets who lived at various times in the history of the world."
The title of The Book of Mormon is just that, The Book of Mormon, with the subtitle being Another Testament of Jesus Christ. We believe that The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ in addition to The Bible, not to take its place. Like The Bible, we believe that The Book of Mormon was written by prophets who lived a long time ago, but this record is of the prophets, people, and events here on the American continent. The Book of Mormon is named after Mormon, one of these ancient prophets. These prophets knew about Jesus Christ and his mission.
"Just as the Bible contains witnesses of Jesus Christ from the Holy Land, the Book of Mormon contains witnesses of Jesus Christ from ancient America. For this reason, the Book of Mormon is called "Another Testament of Jesus Christ."
Some of the information was quoted from the official website of the church, where you can find out more about our belief's in general. Website: https://www.mormon.org/ Also, the free Book of Mormon that konquererz mentioned can be obtained by clicking HERE.
Offtopic but, I apologize that it's taken me a while to get to your question, Stunts. I hope that this isn't too long for you to read, but I wanted to try to give a thorough explanation about what The Book of Mormon is. |
