I have just downloaded the beta test version of Longhorn. My machine cannot handle it. It is an absolutely massive install and uses large amounts of resources. It is however, supposed to be the best that Microsoft has ever put forward. Longhorn should also pull Microsoft closer into the webserver race, a field in which they have been lacking sorely behind.

Let's be serious...Did you expert to work as is suppose to? Usually after a period of a year after release the system will be reliable and people will start to use it.

From what I recall, LongHorn was supposed to implement a new File System, and that has been pushed out now as a beta when the OS is released. It seems to me that LongHorn is more of an infrastructure than an Operating System, similar to .NET It will have the ability to be added onto WinXP and Win2003, but its stability on its own will be questionable.

I was really excited about the new Windows File System WinFS. I was disappointed when they pushed the release back to service pack release one of longhorn or maybe later. That was supposed to be a really big selling point, but Im going to be watch sales to see if it can still sell without that feature.

The code name Longhorn is now pretty well gone with the official name of Windows Vista but it is still a little while from hitting the streets. A new BETA release has now been issued, information can be found here.

Microsoft Vista

What a shock, Microsoft may be forced due to time limitations to delay the release of Windows Vista from it's scheduled release of late this year. New projects announced place Vista's release to sometime either late second quarter or early third quarter of next year.

I saw that release too. It figures though, when was the last time Microsoft released on time? Problem is that they keep pushing it back but not adding anything else to it that was taken out. You would think that they would be able to finish WinFS and have in integrated by the time they release it since it will be nearly two years after the original release date.
