Microsoft Vista (Hover)
I just started using Vista. I have a Home Premium version and I find that it is okay, but right now I prefer XP. Vista seems to be concentrating on making the computer relatively user friendly by catering for the person who knows very little about computers or internet security. However, it becomes a pain in the butt to make the most basic of modifications. For instance, just to get my portable Firefox browser to show as the default browser takes me actually writing a registry entry and entering it into the Vista registry. Of course the push here is IE. There are some other quirks, but I will put those in specific Threads as I find them.
Vista upgrade is mostly behind-the-scenes fixes
Whatever you think of Windows Vista - and nobody I know is waving pompoms on its behalf - Microsoft's ubiquitous operating system will be with us for a while. The first major upgrade of Vista arrives next week as a free download in what geeks refer to as a service pack.
Service packs can be a pretty big deal. Microsoft (MSFT) says this one, dubbed Service Pack 1 (SP1), will tackle four core areas: reliability, security, compatibility and performance.
