Baby Tossed From Car!

When I read this news, I was very upset about it. Not only the mother and her male companion tossed their baby from a car! but when this good samaritan who was passing by saw the baby, she discovered that the baby has a grocery type of bag around his head! *shaking head*

I do not think ANYONE can have a justification for such an act. In a country like the US where adoption is so encouraged to those women who do not want to keep their babies...to go and do something like this is plain EVIL.

The child was obviously in critical condition but thank God he is out of danger:

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (CNN) -- Authorities have located the birth mother of the baby tossed from a moving vehicle Thursday in Florida, Broward County Sheriff Ken Jenne said Friday.

Authorities said the baby is in remarkably good shape in a hospital.

Jenne told reporters a woman had been questioned in connection with the case.

"It is my belief ... that this person is the birth mother of the child. It puts a whole new light on the story as we're going forward and we will proceed. But we do believe at this point, or at least I believe from the information our detectives have, that ... we will soon have an admission to the birth of the child," he said.

The 8-pound, 2-ounce boy was only hours old when he was tossed from a car in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, and still had his umbilical cord attached, authorities said.

Car Tossed Baby

The sad part about this whole incident is that this is not the first time such a thing has happened in the state of Florida! I remember when I lived in Orlando, Fl there was a story about a lovers quarrel that resulted in a high speed car chase, and ended with a child being tossed through a moving car's window. It makes you wonder what goes in the mind of an individual to even think about taking a helpless child and throwing them from a moving car. It makes me boil thinking about it!

Well, it turns out the baby was not tossed from the car. The woman who said he was tossed, was actually his mother. It's funny, but when I first heard this story, I thought it might turn out this way.

Oh my goshhh! Thank you so much for that update Tena! it makes me feel so much better!. Have you seen the baby? It is BEAUTIFUL!. It is obvious that this woman is not mentally stable and for what I read in the same article, Florida's law may have helped he if she did not do this:

QUOTE
...The incident need not have happened, noting that Florida had a “safe harbor law” allowing a mother leave her baby at any medical facility or fire station within three days, no questions asked.

“If Patricia had done this, we would not be here today,” he said, but it was not yet clear whether she knew about the law.

This was a rather...odd occurance. I don't see why a person would feel the need to lie about such a thing. There is nothing condemnable about a mother wanting to put her baby up for adoption if they don't feel they can take of her efficiently. Actually, that's a lot more admirable than keeping the child and that child growing up in a life of neglect or growing up in need of the basic necessities of life.

It was such a relief, though, to hear that the baby had not simply been tossed from a car. Though it what makes it even sadder is knowing that these sort of things do happen, and quite often. Thank God that this child truly had not been through such an ordeal. Hopefully she will grow up healthy and normal.

What I thought was even more odd was that they had a law that allowed a mother to drop a child off at a firestation or a hospital within 3 days of birth - no questions asked. I am really suprised that there is a need for such a law. I actually wonder if this is a law that was introduced in the 30's and just has remained on the books?

I think it's a good law. It's not a law I, personally, would ever take advantage of, but it gives women/girls another option. Some girls, especially when they're younger, and they get pregnant want to get rid of the baby. If they don't have something to do with that child once it's born, they are likely to turn to abortion or other means, such as abandoning it in a dumpster. While I know that isn't the only reason for abortion, I do believe it is a cause of murdering a baby inside the womb. They simply don't know what to do with it.

That law allows a mother an alternative to a situation that could end up fatal for the child. What baffles me in this case is why the mother felt she had to lie. Was she ashamed that she was turning over her child? I was under the understanding that hospitals and firestations did that sort of thing completely anonymously.
