AMERICAN NUN SHOT DEAD IN BRAZIL
A 74-year-old American nun was shot to death early on Saturday in Brazil's
Amazon jungle, where she worked for decades to defend peasant farmers and the
rain forest from illegal loggers and ranchers.

It is one thing to kill an old woman, but a Nun? Not only that, but according to the link it was three or four men and they shot her in the back and then the head! So cowardly, the world is by no means a safe place and I am sure this was related with the work she was trying to perform in defending the farmers.

That is shocking ! The message there was :" we do not care who you are...if we killed a nun imagine what we will do to you" and the thing is that people in that area will get the message and the results will be more to the illegal loggers and ranchers liking then one might expect.
I almost cried reading that. It's so sad what this world has sunk to when it comes to greediness. Nobody's life is worth somebody else's earthly gain. I think it is so amazing that she knew the risks, yet she still stood up for those who needed to be helped. Hopefully, instead of scaring those who are involved in keeping the rainforest intact will only be further motivated by this incident instead of scared away from it.
I think it's so wonderful that she dedicated the majority of her life to servin God. Even though I don't necessarily follow Catholicism in my beliefs because I'm Protestant, it's so wonderful to see people from both groups reaching out to other parts of the world. As sad and horrible as her death was, I hope people remember the good things she did and stood up for. She's in a much better place, and while she may not necessarily have been martyred for sharing the Gospel, she was martyred for the cause she spent half her life standing up for. God will reward that in Heaven.
