Religious Beliefs About...

What does your religion / beliefs say about life on other planets? Would an encounter from an alien increase or decrease your faith in God?

IS ANYONE OUT THERE? LIFE ON OTHER PLANETS COULD CHANGE GOD DEBATE

"Spirit finds Peace." From a spiritual perspective, that statement sums up what most religions hope to help their adherents accomplish.

About Beliefs Religious

The discovery of life on other planets would mean that no religious text holds all the answers. It would mean that at best, these books such as the Bible where flawed by not having everything we need to know. It would not necessarily negate the existence of God. It would also not negate salvation, if it exists. God could very well send salvation in different forms to different people. It would most likely mean that there where other excepted ways to reach God and not just through one man. The existence of life on other planets would make everyone question what they believe and what your idea of God is based on.

Religious Beliefs About... Beliefs Religious General

Konquererz, there are actually scriptural texts that refer to life on other planets, but I will not bring that up here at the moment. Concerning the question asked by Neo... I believe there are other lives out there in the universe, but I believe there interaction with us is either extremely limited or non-existent altogether (this excludes interaction with Heavenly beings or spirits imprisoned here). I also believe that if we were to encounter an alien that we would be amazed to find out that they too also have on their world similar, if not the same record of a Savior and Salvation. Of course this could only strengthen my beliefs.

Offtopic but,
In a way this has already happened. When everyone in the world thought that Europe, Asia and Africa was the whole world and Christopher Columbus proved them wrong by 'discovering' the Western Hemisphere, they (Spanish Monks) began to proselyte amongst the native Indians only to discover that they already knew about Christ, baptism, etc (see Spanish Chronicles). . Now this is really offtopic, but interesting to note: The Spanish Monks tried to explain this by saying the devil told them this... how they figured that I do not know.

About Beliefs Religious

Within my belief system, there is an almost certainty that there is life on other planets, as some of our scriptures allude to this.

I believe that God created the entire universe (and possibly many others). I believe that He creates things for specific purposes. I don't have the hubris to assume that the stars and distant planets were made just for us to look at them up in the sky.

One of our scriptures says that God's purpose and glory is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. With this in mind, I believe that He made all those other stars and planet specifically to populate them with man. At the same time, I believe that there are some of those stars and planets that are going through the process of developing resources for future habitable planets.

So, I don't think that either the discovery that there are planets on distant stars, or the unlikely discovery of human (or any other type) life on other planets, would disturb MY religious beliefs in the slightest.

The reason that I say "unlikely" about the discovery of other life is that I don't believe that mankind will be able to find it before some VERY major changes in life. After those changes, it won't matter. smile.gif
