I just finished watching Blue Submarine No. 6. Again. It's strange; there isn't anything exceptional about the OVA, but I have no problem watching it time and time again. It never ceases to entertain me. Is anyone else a fan?
I think the first thing I noticed about the anime is that the creators had no problem integrating the 3D animation with 2D, which (for anime from that point in time) is a near miracle. The next thing was Hayami. As weird as it sounds, Hayami has become one of my all-time favorite characters. There isn't anything unique or special about him, but he remains among my favorite nonetheless.
I know the anime is based off of the manga, but I haven't gotten my hands on it yet. So I can't argue about whether or not the OVA follows the original plot. I can't imagine that it would have deviated too far though. Edited: Rache on 4th Dec, 2004 - 4:52am
The OVA follows the original plot roughly. I have found that they leave out things that aren't as visually stimulating, things that don't move the plot along. I like the animation, but just cant get into it like I did the manga. It seems to have lost its heart and become simply entertaining instead of grabbing my attention.
