Now this may seem like a funny thread, but it is really meant as a serious review topic so no puns please. Have you ever considered the shape of your toilet? I am not talking about the toilet room, but the actual toilet bowl itself. There are toilets that have a long drop zone and then there are those with hardly any clearance. There are those that flush as though you are in the Niagara falls and then there are those that you have to keep flushing over and over as though you were trying to start an old motorcycle. Personally, I feel all toilets should have come set with a foot press to flush rather than your hand as it would have been otherwise busy before the flush. What are your feelings on the topic?

Now this is a subject that really gets to me living here in Japan. Japan has probably the oldest style toilets and on the other side of the spectrum they have the most advanced! I was recently at someones house who was very proud of their Hi-tech toilet. This toilet had a console on the side of the seat which held roughly 8 buttons or knobs. In addition, there was a control panel mounted on the wall next to the toilet that had over 3 dozen buttons on it. 3 DOZEN! I only have 2 decisions to make when I using this facility...to go or not to go! I cannot imagine what 3 dozen decisions need to be made in that situation! Honestly, I felt like I was at the helm of the Starship Enterprise. Take a look:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_toil...Japanese_bidets

Some of the features that were included were: variable heated seat, self opening and closing lid, rectal wash w/variable water pressure and temperature, female wash w/variable water pressure and temperature, air dryer, water flowing noise (so people cannot tell when you start), air freshener/vacuum, blood sugar, blood pressure, body fat measuring, air conditioning (for summer), etc...

These toilets can cost upwards of $10,000!

To top it all off, there is a company here in Japan working on making a toilet that may be used for early disease detection! Doctors are not too excited about this ground breaking work:

All I want is a self cleaning toilet...with everything available above, I would think this is not too much to ask for!

The foot pedal control, for sure! I've seen them in the public Rest Areas on the major highways here in the US -- not every one of them, but some. I also like the ones that *Flush* and not... f..l..u..s..h.....

I'm with you, Vincenzo -- self-cleaning! When do they design that?

Many years ago, during the Feminist madness in the 70's, women demanded to be able to stand to urinate, rather than sit. And so some accommodating person actually designed a stand up toilet for women. Unfortunately, women are not designed that way, and it was a big failure; but those commodes were around in public facilities for a few years. Anyone remember those?

Another thing that gets me are the fancy things people want to add to the commode, as if it's a decoration or something -- like cushioned seats (gross!).

It would make sense to have a foot pedal to flush the toilet. I don't know why this hasn't been invented already.

I hate going to people's houses whose toilets don't flush properly, they drive me mad.

Regarding the comment about self cleaning toilets, this made me think of the public toilet cubicles in France.
A couple of years ago, we went to France, and hadn't before seen the singular metal toilet cubicles that they have over there.

You have to pay about 75c for the use, which at the time was in French francs. As we had just arrived in France, we didn't have much change, only notes, so my husband suggested that we put the money in the cubicle for my son to use the toilet first, then the plan was that he would hold the door open so I could go in.... That was the plan.. but what we didn't realize was, that the door was on an automatic closer, so as one person opened the door to come out, the door automatically locked.. and yes you've probably guessed, I was locked inside the toilet cubicle whilst blue toilet disinfectant was squirted all over the toilet, the walls and the floor, and then fast jets of air blow dried the toilet ready for the next use.

I never lived it down, it was so embarrassing to come out drowned in toilet cleaner all over.. I'm just glad they didn't clean the ceiling, I probably wouldn't have walked out of there well. laugh.gif

Foot control is a nice idea. I just had new toilets installed. What a difference. If you have hard water, overtime, your toilet will not work as well. I went with the TOTO brand. This brand is pretty expensive but it came highly recommended by two different plumbers. I used to have circle bowls now I have oval. The oval bowls take up more room but they have the obvious advantage of a larger target zone.

Now here is a toilet that doesn't just flush! It is a Fully Pimped Out Home Entertainment Toilet...

That's right! It comes in fashionable colors, sounds system, DVD and game system. Plus, for those that are interested, a beer tap to ensure you don't need to leave the "chair". This definitely is the "FLUSH" of the future!

Now that is just plain ridiculous. Why would anyone want to remain there for so long to use all that stuff unless they had some kind of problem where they needed to sit on the seat for hours before it comes.

The other thing is keeping that equipment clean, I mean to say you would have to be extra cautious not to take hand to toilet to equipment to toilet - yuk.

Think about it. It wasn't but about 120yrs ago started using toilets (waterclosets). Could they imagine what this would become?

Personally, after about 5 plus minutes on that thing and my legs start to lose feeling. There is no way that I could play a game or post a reply!

However, I thought of a solution for your problem there JB: Disposable entertainment system covers that can be flushed after each use! I better patent this idea before someone runs off with it! laugh.gif
