Btk Serial Killer Suspect Arrested

BTK stands for Bind, Torture and Kill. For years the police has been trying to catch this serial killer and it seems like they finally caught him...but who is the suspect?. A prominent Church president of the Lutheran Church. Everybody describes him as a family man and a great leader. Not even one person suspect he may have done such a horrible thing...

WICHITA, Kansas (CNN) -- A source close to the investigation that led to the capture of a suspect in the BTK serial killings told CNN on Sunday that the suspect's daughter did not provide DNA to investigators and was not involved in her father's capture.

But CNN affiliate KAKE, which has investigated BTK for years, reported that the daughter's DNA did play a role in the investigation. It was unclear how authorities obtained the DNA, KAKE said.

Suspect Dennis Rader was arrested Friday in Park City, Kansas.

KAKE anchor Larry Hatteberg told CNN that Rader's daughter -- whom the station identified as 26-year-old Kerri Rader -- did not turn her father in, but that her DNA was indirectly involved in Rader's arrest.

"What we do know is that the police and FBI obtained the daughter's DNA," Hatteberg said. Part of the DNA strand matched something the authorities had, "so that they knew someone in her family was BTK."

Police said Saturday they plan to file 10 counts against Rader, 59, in connection with killings between 1974 and 1991 -- eight counts of first-degree murder and two other homicide charges...

Incidently, he cannot be tried under the death penalty. At the time of the crimes, Kansas did not have a legal death penalty. This has several of the victims families very upset, as well as some of those in the community.

I am really intrigued by this story. It is amazing. He killed all those people in the late 70's early 80's. We don't here from him in more than 20-25 years and then he starts sending letters again and is finally caught!

It turns out he may have continued to kill through out this time, but if he did, he did it without the need to be recognized for it. What changed? I mean, he was a classic serial killer for many years. Killed often and sought public recognition for the killings. Then he seems to have lived a somewhat normal life. He has a wife and two children. He is the president of the congregation at his church. He holds a job, leads a cub scout pack. Seems to live a very normal life.

A story in the news about this decades old unsolved crime somehow compels him to begin writing his letters again and he is eventually caught, but did he really stop killing for all those years and then couldn't contain himself when the story resurfaced?

This one is really quite unusual. At least it seems so to me.

I did some research on this case. Note: Some of this is not for the faint of heart, but it covers what this man did in graphic detail.

To get various aspects of his innvolvement using a timeline you can go here:

An example of how hideous this 'beast' is...

Charlie's father, Joseph, 38, was lying face down on the floor at the foot of his bed; his wrists and ankles had been bound. His mother, Julie, 34, lay on the bed bound in similar fashion, only she had been gagged. For a few seconds, Charlie could not move, he didn't know what to do. Moments later his senses came back to him and he rushed out in desperation to get help for his parents, not realizing that he had experienced only a portion of the horror that the house had in store.

As the police searched the house, they were shocked to find nine-year-old Joseph II in his bedroom face down on the floor at the foot of his bed. His wrists and ankles were also bound, the only difference being that over his head was a hood -- and according to one reporter, he had three hoods covering his head.

The worst was yet to come. Downstairs in the basement, Charlie's eleven-year-old sister, Josephine, was discovered hanging by her neck from a pipe; she was partially nude, dressed only in a sweatshirt and socks, and she had been gagged.

Investigators were stunned at this daytime execution-style multiple murder in such a quiet neighborhood.

According to Capt. Paul Dotson of the Wichita Police Department, semen was found throughout the house, and it appeared as though the killer had masturbated on some of the victims, although none had been sexually assaulted.

Arrested Suspect Killer Serial Btk

Did they finally get this guy?

This person has been killing since before I was borne, hearing about him has become part of the news being an attraction on the national news every once in a while. There is a show called Law and Order that is a fictional show, but did a show based on the BTK killer.

It almost seems surreal that he would have been captured after all this time. I really hope they have the right person, they need to put him away! I will be keeping a close eye on this case as this killer has made a profound impact on the news as I was growing up.

Btk Serial Killer Suspect Arrested

There have been a lot of instances lately with church members and leaders getting arrested and tried for murders, rapes, etc. It just goes to show that you never know people's true hearts. I am so thankful that this man was caught. There is no telling how many more lives he could have ruined had he remained unknown.

Bravo for his daughter. I cannot even begin to fathom how hard it must have been for her to come forth and bring the attention to her father. She is truly a remarkable person who showed a great deal of courage.

I read today in different newspapers that the daughter did not directly helped in the investigation, yes..she did give a DNA sample but it was not told that it was for that purpose.
