[camp] The Rescue - Page 23

I am not sure about the single adventure. You can probably play medieval solo, but I don't know if that character than translates back to this one.

As far as healing, as soon as we decide we are ready to go out again, we post in party order what we did to heal and then we proceed on the adventure.

(OOC note- In my posts anything in quotes is what my character says, anything in brackets ([XXX]) is what actions my character takes and parentheses indicate thoughts. This post is an exception as it includes a character description as well as a regular post.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A man approaches your camp. He carries himself upright and with pride. Perhaps the first thing you would notice about him is his clothing. He wears the finest cloths he can afford; Although made from common materials, cotton, wool, and the like, his cloths are very fanciful. They cover his whole body except for his hands feet, they have no jewels and what buttons and clasps they do have are simple. They are however made well and are taken care of remarkably. Their style is that of a feudal servant of some stature, with the French cuffs and the heavy overcoat. He sports a wide brimmed hat with a white feather. His skin is fair and he has a kindly face.
The other thing for others tend to notice quickly is his small stature; He stands at 5'2" and indeed it is not at all uncommon to hear others describe him as runty. His size is unfortunate because wearing fancy-ish cloths AND being small equals repeated robbery attempts (most of which succeed). But as he is small and wearing rather cumbersome clothing one gets the distinct impression that a good stiff wind could bowl him over and that dagger he has on his side just has to be for decoration. At any rate he now stands in your camp and addresses any who cares to listen.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Brave adventurers, ladies, gentlemen, and fellow human beings. I have come to your camp today as I have heard of your need. Unfortunately I missed the muster when you first set out upon your quest, but I shall not make the same mistake twice. I have come to petition my services as an aid to the rescue of the farmers maiden who was abducted from our village. My resources are limited, but I assure you my services are not. If any one of you generous patriots would grant me passage with you upon your steed then I would offer them in return my skills as a healer as well as an extra sword for the fray." [he places his hand upon the hilt of his dagger] So what say you to my offer? [he now places both hands upon his hips as he finishes his monologue and looks into the faces of the adventurers who were listening with a look of determination smouldering in his eyes. ]

Sabina listens with a raised eyebrow as the little man solemnly recites his piece. Her eyes take in the miniature finery, and her ears cannot believe the finicky way he enunciates. As he finishes, she's unable to contain a hearty guffaw. This little fellow is truly serious! Her eyes sparkling mischievously, she tucks a stray red curl behind one ear and addresses the newcomer between mirthful bursts of giggling - completely missing the intensity in the man's eyes.

"Sir, do ye truly call that wee blade a sword?" she giggles, and falls into a coarse country brogue. "Do ye truly believe ye can help us a'tall? Ye look a bit like ye've just escaped from the king's fancy dinin' hall! Have ye got a suit of sparklin' armor under yer vest, lad? My own wee dog at home is taller than you!" Sabina falters as she can no longer contain her laughter, and then explodes into snorts, cackles, and guffaws, her eyes streaming tears as she near doubles over with a fit of merriment.

[taken aback by the rude reply by miss Sabina Remi winces at the remarks aimed at his smaller stature, but his offence quickly flairs into anger and he removes his hands from his hips and flicks one arm out as if brushing this unruly lady aside. He retorts] Miss, your words are ill befitting of a lady, I have not seen such filth spew forth since the stable boy cleaned up after the horses. Keep a civil tongue in your head! What right do You have after suffering such defeat to look down your nose at me?" [When he says this his eyes narrow and he looks at her with a keen eye and glances at the others as well. The tone in his voice falls and he seems to be thinking a little clearer now] Why is it, I wonder, that you have managed to escape injury when so many of your companions fell prey? I also wonder at your merriment after a member of your own company has fallen. Could it be that you are as I am- a newcomer to this party and you lack the sensitivity to show restraint of your jesting? If so then keep your silence; my remarks are not directed at you, but at those members of worth that have suffered wrongly at the hands of fate!"
[At this Remi seems to have spent out his anger and even looks a little drained. and he now focus' his attention on the the other members paying particular attention to the wounded] "This exchange of ugliness among people who should be allies does not suit my disposition, and for my part I apologize." [He says this without looking at Sabina] "My name is Sir Remi, [he offers a stiff bow] and if you let me help you then I will do so. How I can help you I have already mentioned, and if these services do not warrant the small courtesy of sharing your beast of burden then I shall find gainful employment elsewhere. [his voice does falter on the word "elsewhere" and for the first time since you have observed him he does not seem confident in what he is saying] (What if they tell me to go? Do I really go back? I can't go back there-I won't! But I can't follow them on foot- that would be suicide) "I hope you have the wisdom to make the correct decision." [he adds hoping to cover that last note]

OOC-- Is it okay for me to post twice like this or should I have waited longer to give others a chance to respond? Or what is a proper amount of time to wait between posts?

"Welcome Sir Remi! While a warrior is of what we are most in need, thy apparent intelligence could help us greatly. Ye could guide us through our path and map our way, except ye miss the ink and scroll, ye will have to borrow 'em from one of yer companions. Since ye lack a horse as well, ye will have ride a horse of one of us."

[brightens up as he is addressed by Mud and replaces his hands back on his hips appearently willing to ignore Sabina for now] "I take it then sir, that you volunteer your steed to aid me and carry the burden of both of us?" [He continues without pausing for answer] "That is most generous... of you and your horse" [he adds this last part turning his head to look at the horses themselves] (I wonder which is his; I hope its the large strapping beast-- it seems to have more sense than the others as well) [his gaze, which was focused upon the only war horse, slowly returns to Mud] "But where are my manners! Hm, where indeed? You are wounded, though you carry the blow well. As per our agreement I will tend to it if you permit me to do so. I have not perfected my trade so do not expect miracles, but at least I can ease your discomfort. [He takes off his leather pack which is rather plain and seems out of place given the style of his other cloths and starts to rummage through it. He produces from his pack a hankercheif that has been tied to make a make-shift pouch and he begins to unravel it] " You are quite correct in assuming that I have not the necessary gear to map our path, but if you believe that I can further serve this noble cause in that capacity then I will procure the necessary materials from the local merchants. I will have a chance to visit the market before our departure, will I not? [he finally gets the hankerchief untied and one can see a few herbs, some slightly wilted, others dry all bunched together and in sad shape after riding unprotected in the pack. He scowls at the herbs for a moment, but quickly looks up and addresses the wounded] "These are all I have for the injured and they will only help but one. If however, somebody would run to the market and procure for me more of the like, then I could treat others as well...[he ponders but a moment and adds] Of course you will be expected to share your horse with me for a while, as there is no sense in making one horse always work for two when there are others to bare the burden. You may make your decision after I show you what talent I have, if you wish. [He makes his way toward Mud and asks] Forgive me sir, but to whom do I have the privilege of speaking to?"

Finally getting ahold of herself, though still occasionally beset by a stray hiccough of laughter, Sabina gathers herself to reply to this "Sir" Remi.

"Lady?!" she gasps and stifles a giggle, then performs a surprisingly graceful mock curtsey. "Are ye too short to see the truth, "sir?" Sabina pulls her sword and handles it in such a way as to show skill but not threaten. "I'm a warrior of merit, and not some simpering porcelain doll. I have not suffered any defeat, blast your eyes, but have come to offer my services as a warrior to this band of woebegone souls." She sheaths her sword and stands with muscled arms crossed over her chest. "What, pray tell, have you to offer them? Ye haven't even got a horse, and seem more begging of a ride than offering aid, in my view."

She watches as he fumbles with his pack and kerchief, shakes her head and silently scoffs at the poor condition of his herbs. Sabina responds to his request for more. "I have enough substance to purchase more healing herbs, and as I'm a bit of an herbalist myself, I'm sure I can select the proper sort. When I go to the market for other purchases, I'll be sure to stop at the healer's hut."

OOC: Unferth, first of all, I forgot to say "Welcome" to the game! Looks like you're going to add quite a different dimension to this scenario smile.gif You're welcome to reply to any post that applies to you. We haven't quite gotten into much depth of character here, and I'm looking forward to reading your imaginative posts.

Secondly, not everyone checks in more than once a day, so if no one responds immediately to your posts, it's just because we're busy. I don't normally post more than once per day, and that's usually early morning West Coast time. Everyone else has different schedules and may check in at periodic intervals during the day. So base your posts and expectations on that. Have fun!

[camp] Rescue World Medieval PBP RPG - Page 23

OOC: Welcome unferth. Let me remind everyone that borrowing each others stuff isn't allowed. I think outright gifting may be, but I know just lending isn't.

I see that another user has created a character too. He hasn't been to camp yet, though. We might need to consider changing how we travel. Certainly, new members of the forum don't have enough fp to buy horses and we can't all ride double. So, maybe we might travel on foot until we need to flee and then ride double with our horses not tired from travel. It will be slower this way, but it might be safer overall.

IC: Ice scowls at the newcomers both and says..."You both look a sorry lot to me!" Looking directly at Remi she says "That large beast is mine! Don't even think about touching him. He is a highly trained war machine and I don't want you messing with him. I don't see how one as unskilled as you will survive on a mission such as we have ahead, but if you do, your skills will surely come in handy. I recommend we save your healing herbs for when we are out of the village with no other option for help. When here, we can visit a doctor or other healer." Ice now turns to Sabina and says, "Well, at least you are a Warrior. That should be of great help in this journey. However, you do appear a bit green. Well, it is no matter, we all must get our first experience somewhere on some journey. Welcome."
