China vs Taiwan - Page 6

Greater ties to what end? Just so everyone can see two people shake hands, make inside deals and then know they are independents. I think this is just a facilitation by China because they have the Olympics on their doorstep and do not want to see any Taiwanese protest action or hiccups.

Taiwan China

No, actually Taiwan has been watching investment money go to China that could have gone to Taiwan and they want some of that money. There are more industrial parks in Taiwan that need filling up and need foreign investment. Additionally, this party now in charge wants to see not only more foreign investment, but Chinese investment in Taiwan. The flights that are now worked out to allow direct travel between the countries is pretty significant. For over 10 years, Taiwan has basically been pushing China away. China is quickly climbing the world power ladder and this President wants some of the benefits. Now he still is not willing to say that Taiwan is China, but he does want to work closely together. China may be doing it for more social status reasons...but be assured that Taiwan really does want stronger relations with China for economic interest!
