If your password does not work then it has either been changed or deleted or in the very least - corrupted. Your ISP will have to check that and can reset your password for you if for some reason it has become corrupted. Are you on dial-up? If you had the CAPS ON accidentally this can also happen.
Thank you, Konquererz, I'll give that a try. That sounds really reasonable. I knew you guys would have the answer! (Of course, if it doesn't work, I'll be right back.... )
JB it's not a password issue, because I don't need one to connect to the 'net. With the DSL we are basically always connected. What I mean about log on is that my mother and I share the computer, and her profile was able to connect and mine was not. We'll see what happens with KofZ's solution.
Thank you so much!
Roz
Actually, it IS a password thing. You need a password to connect to the DSL, and it sounds like yours is corrupted.
Did you try running the DSL setup disk under your profile?
Obviously, you don't have a router, since your mother's profile works.
I hope that konquererz's ideas work.
Okay, new problem. My monitor display has suddenly gone wacky. I have two inches of black around the edge of the window, exce pt on the right-hand side which is about 1/2" out of sight. I've checked the driver and the settings, and everything looks normal. What the heck happened? I've used the control panel on the front of the monitor to adjust the display, but I'm worried about the actual driver/software issues. Any suggestions?
Monitors can be tricky to figure out. What kind of monitor is it, ie, tube, flat-screen, LCD? How old is it? May be that it is burning out. Software wise, the only thing I can think of is a new graphics driver was installed that is trying to display something that is not compatible with your monitor, although I've never seen it where you have black edges. Maybe someone can chime in later with some better suggestions. Just curious, when you starting messing with the display settings, did that make any kind of difference?
From my prior experience with monitors this does not surprise me much. I would not worry about any software or display settings within your computer as I am almost definitely sure that they are fine. In most cases with CRT monitors this is often just loss of the EPROM that holds the settings that you control from the front of the monitor. I would give it a few days and if it doesn't continue to change the settings then I would worry none at all. If it does continue however you may look at investing in a new monitor.
Yeah, it's old. It's Sony tube style, probably 7 years old. With the control panel in front I was able to "fix" the display so that it fits the screen now, and I guess now it's just a waiting game. Hey, I'm all for a new monitor, but I'll wait till it actually gives out
Thanks, you guys! I knew you could give me answers.
