Child Of The Holy Ghost

In the Bible it says that Christ was born of the Holy Ghost, was does this mean to you?

Matthew 1:18
18. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

To me, this implies that Jesus was not conceived of traditional means ie, from the union of a man and a woman, but by the hand of God through the power of the Holy Spirit. There is also a sense of purity about this, as his conception was not a result of the lust of a man and woman. Instead, he is a part of the Holy Trinity; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Child Of The Holy Ghost Revealed Bible The

To me... it means... God with us in Human form in a way that is comprehensible to the Human mind. Since God is so beyond our finite mentality, His coming as a human is most profound.

It means to me that "unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace" (Isa 9:6)... All of these things in one package.

It means to me Christ could never have had a human father and be sinless... The Holy Spirit did something very unique and began in Mary the creation of the Perfect Human Body that would be the habitation of God.

It means to me that the 1st Adam was created body (matter) and spirit (breath of God) becoming a soul (I Cor 15:45a)... but Christ is called the 2nd Adam and the 'image of the invisible God' (Col 1:15, I Cor 15:45b).

It means a lot to me...

In order to be the Son of God, there had to be a way for God to produce an earthly child, and it was ordained from before the world was created. An earthly father couldn't have been possible because then, how could He be the Son of God?

But Mary was just as human as any earthly man; why would being born of her make Christ any less sinless? I understand that she had to be a rare and special kind of woman, and called to the position of Mother of the Messiah. But she was not born in any special circumstances (that we know of) that would make her without sin, was she?

An amazing miracle, and one we still, as Christians, are in awe of.

Farseer... You are right... I even confuse myself. I miss said this... Let me clarify. If Christ had a human father, he would have had a sinful nature like the rest of us. That which we inherited from Adam would have caused him to die a natural death.

Mary was infected with 'sin' like the rest of us. She was no different in condition than any of us. She was chosen by God for reasons we don't know... only God.

Yet, it takes male and female to procreate with the man passing the genotype of sin. Since God formed a human body within Mary so God could inhabit human form, and God is without sin, then the human 'son of man and God' was perfect.

The Holy Spirit of God did this and that's why it is so. Thanks for calling that to my attention.
