Teachers in Berkley, California are on a semi-strike. In response to not having received an increasement in their pay after two years, they refuse to do any work outside of school hours. They aren't grading homework, which means students aren't receiving homework, and they aren't returning phone calls to parents. Teachers are not taking part in extra activities.

I, personally, can see the issue from two sides: the teacher and the student. Teachers do have to make enough money to live off of, and they did not receive the money they were promised. At the same, I feel bad for the students because they're going to be the ones who truly suffer from all of this. It's a tough situations.

teachers are sticking strictly to the hours they"re contracted to work.....The union declared an impasse in negotiations last June and has not had a contract for two years. |
