TEACHING THE WHOLE CHILD

More and more testing is a recent trend to document how well students perform at their grade levels. But many observers say education is larger than a test score. They advocate a renewed emphasis on how students develop morals and learn to live in a democracy and how teachers go about their jobs.

While this sound all nice and good on the outside, look at what is really going to happen. I have three children, one will be starting school soon so I have to think about what I want the teacher teaching him.

I want my child to learn morals and such. But the problem is what morals will they be teaching? Who's morals will they be using and who decides who's morals to use? I don't want someone else deciding what morals my child will learn. You cant teach a child how to develop morals, you pass down your own morals. I and my wife alone have been bestoyed that responsibility in regards to our children.

It appears as though it will start off with good intentions, but as you know, the best intentions often end up as intrusions into peoples life. This is an area in which I would prefer to keep mutual exclusivity to my childs life. Teach basic principles that are in democracy, leave personal morals to me.
