Most of my clients like Ajax Chat. There are other chat interfaces but I've heard the security is not so good. However, with any chat in your community you need to consider:
1. Chats are resource hungry so you will need good hosting resources
2. You will have to moderate them often
3. If they are chatting it means they are not posting in your forum(s)
Well you know my server do you think it can manage having a chat without screwing up everything else?
I know what you mean with the moderation we may just have it open at certain times I guess, can that be done?
Yes, of course your server can handle it once the chat is not excessive (100 people trying to chat once). As for the times, that is a good idea, yes it can be done. I used to have a chat room once (many years ago) and this was one of the settings (open only at a certain time) I coded so the chat will only be available when I or another Moderator was around.

Comments: I used a chat with SMF for awhile but after I noticed so much database connection problems I then removed it after a month.

Comments: Is there a chat room you can recommend that is also compatible with SMF? I really want a chat room badly!
