Arvhic Introduction - Page 5

Hi JB,

At the moment I have very little time to explore the discussion board, so unfortunately I don't get to travel too far past the news threads! I know it's a bit boring, but I"m a journalist so it is my number one interest. Hopefully my time schedule will free up a bit before I head over to Europe for a new life very soon.

I feel bad about the whole Nighthawk thing because I wasn't aware of all his problems with depression and the sort. I hope I have not made him feel bad with my posts. I didn't think anyone took them too seriously. I"m not sure why he gets so offended when I comment about the US Government? I have to confess, Australian's don't share the same affection for their politicians.

Anyway the door is always open for him if he wants to talk to me about anything. If my posts are getting too personal please let me know. Anyway mate, all the best.

Arvhic Introduction
A Friend

Introduction Arvhic

What part of Europe are you going to?

I had a friend who lived in Australia, and we were constantly getting into the national debates as well. I was definately hearing about how much Australians hated America, and it did evolve into several heated arguements. A lost of Americans, myself included, do have a very strong sense of national pride, and it's very easy to feel defensive over our country.

*grin* Must be an Australian thing to ruffle feathers and Americans to go on the "offensive defense."

Good luck with the move and everything!

I will certainly take responsibility for my responses to you. I am still having a very difficult time responding to any of your posts, as they all seem to me to be making an apologetic stance for the excesses and crimes of many modern Muslims and Islamists. That is, I suppose, my biggest problem with your posts. I also took offence at your stance in the "Guns in the Home" topic.

I apologize for any discomfort that I may have caused. I was going through a very difficult time there for a few weeks, and didn't really even realize what was happening. Some of the moderators tried to get my attention, but I wasn't listening.

I believe that you and I will disagree, for a long time on certain subjects.

It isn't so much that I have great affection for the current administration, but that the things you are so strongly against with them are about the only thing that I think they are really doing right! The current foreign policy is, IMO, too weak. It is in the domestic realm that I think GWB and his people are really weak, and doing all the wrong things.

I am a defender of the basic principles of liberty established in the US Constitution, including personal and religious liberty, protection of private property, and the right of people to defend themselves against those who would degrade that liberty.

Well, enough of my rant.

I expect that you are moving to Sweden. Is that right? About to get married?

Whatever the adventure, I hope it all works out well for you. I have never held any ill feelings toward you, I just got very upset about what you were saying.

I hope that you can forgive me for my thoughtless, bratty behavior. And I wish you all the best in your new adventures.

I plan to travel around Sweden again with my partner, then go to the World Cup in Germany. Hopefully I will get a chance to visit Eastern Europe before I settle in England for a few years.

Unfortunately I cannot spend too long in Sweden because my Swedish isn't quite up to scratch just yet. But one day maybe. Don't know about the marriage thing just yet, but fingers crossed!

I don't think Australians hate Americans at all. In fact, I would say the opposite. However most Australians I know don't agree with the foreign policy of the US Administration at the moment. Australian's do like to take the piss out of themselves and others, but it is in a very light hearted way. We are a parochial society but it is tempered with reason and mostly directed towards sport. Australian's hate wars and need to be convinced a war is worth supporting before waging it.

Nighthawk, I don't need to forgive you for anything, but thanks anyway for the nice words. You have a strong opinion about issues and I respect that. I don't take offence from your posts, I think we have both been guilty of making them personal at times.

I also believe in a lot of the core fundamentals that you do, minus the need for guns or force to liberate. I am not apologetic for Muslims or Islamists or other followers of religion. But a lot of blame seems to be squared at the Islamic faith which I find a bit silly. It's like blaming the Catholic faith for the terrorist acts that shaped South America and Africa. I just think it is pointless to basket case people based on their faith. Culture is a different thing, but we should not treat religion as a culture in itself because religion is very open to interpretation and distortion. Blaming the Islamic faith is a convenient way of avoiding the real reasons why people commit horrible crimes or terrorist acts.

As a journalist I don't accept everything a government says as the truth because I have dealt with hundreds of politicians and know the game. I also know that foreign policy is always about serving the interests of your own country and rarely ever about helping others. I am sceptical, but also determined to find the truth (not the official truth) of a situation.

Anyway that is enough about me, thanks for all your kind wishes. Hopefully I will get the opportunity to continue contributing when I am overseas. I don't leave now for a couple of months anyway.

If I remember right, you once said that you were raised Sikh. If you don't mind too much, I would really like to learn more about Sikh culture and beliefs. However, I don't really know enough to have any clear questions to ask.

Sorry mate, I had to delete your last post in the Government Administration thread. You know the drill, try to lend some constructive perspective to the topic at hand. Thanks!
