Want To Buy...

If this Community - all of its posts, features, scripts, domains, files and membership were up for sale tomorrow in an immediate auction and you had a chance to bid within your current means what is the most you would be willing to pay to become its new Owner and Administrator? If someone out bid the amount you suggested would you sacrifice to get back the highest bid?

Sorry. I wouldn't pay anything because I don't want to own it. Running this site is way too much work and for such little reward. It has to be a labor of love. I appreciate having this forum to be a member of and I love it, but I wouldn't want to be the one who had to keep it running. I do my best to help out, but I couldn't handle ownership.

I agree with FBC above partially. I don't think that its very easy to run this and would have to be a labor of love. But assuming that you love doing this and have the chance to buy it, I would bid. For the time and effort it took to build it, for the time and effort it takes to keep it up, you would have to bet in the hundreds, maybe even over a thousand. Most websites and forums don't come close to looking like this. I don't have much to sacrifice that is my own so I wouldn't be able to bid as much as I think its worth. I would bid more if I could keep the admins on as consultants!

Ultimately, what do websites go for today? It would have to go for more than the average website thats for sure. This site was designed with love and caring for it. But I don't have the time or desire to give it the attention that a site like this should have.

If I had the time and the talent to maintain/upgrade everything that this website does, I would bid in a heartbeat -- if I thought I could make a living doing it! I think it's obviously a full-time job.

I would easily pay $1000 US for this site! I think it is worth much more than this but that amount would be within my means. I think I would be able to maintain what is currently here, but I doubt I would have the fortitude to add new features, and that may pose a problem as the site has changed and added many, many features in the time I have been here.

The responses have been interesting. Based on the current worth of the name (InternationalDiscussions.com) the domain associated alone (excluding all content and features - so we are talking about just the domain) would probably be around US$1,000. How did we get this figure? Well a name is only as popular as the web designers that make it so - in all humility of course. We are so well indexed that others have tried looking us up just to see what the domain is associated with... and in the past we have had domains that we purposely let expire and they were about 1/8 or less of the popularity of this site and it (the expired domain) was immediately put up for sale at a starting price of US$300.00 by the buyer.

Now that we have the domain out of the way you will need to calculate all the graphics, two plus years of discussion saved, custom built features programmed and designed from scratch on a 40MB Database! A Platinum Package could be put in this web site and would only be considered one feature! For example we could take Cozyville RPG - how many individual pages do you think that has... in addition to which - how many behind the screen scripts do you think it takes to monitor and run it?
