Messaging Instant

Sprint now offers an unlimited instant messaging option for customers in the Sprint network. It is really becoming popular with the kids. No longer calling on cells, just sending instant messaging. I saw a 12 year old at walmart the other day instant messaging through yahoo on his blackberry. Must be nice, I had to walk over to any friends I wanted to talk to when I was his age!

It is interesting how instant messaging has taken over with the younger set. I don't believe it has made nearly the same inroads with older folks like me. I use it, but most of the people I know my age don't like to use it. They much prefer the phone. Since there are now many phone packages that allow one flat rate for unlimited long distance, most of my friends just still use the phone. We used IM before these calling packages were available, but went back to the friendly old phone once that was an affordable option. The major exception to this is my friend living in another country since my calling plan is only for calls within the US.

My friends and I IM all the time. I don't have blackberry. We use the computer. I IM with some while on the phone with others at the same time. How did you all stay in touch before IM? I can't imagine. Must have been like life before television!
