ATVs & Ships
This thread will cover the basics of transportation. Future Earth has a number of vehicles and ships for all kinds of terrain and use, but to simplify things we have put them into specific categories. Those categories will be discussed below and this thread will be updated as it is built up:
Ground Vehicles
Motorbikes, cars, trucks - using tire or track
Hover
Although this vehicle can fly, it can only go about 20 feet above ground
Water
Both water surface such as a boat and dive such as a submarine
Air
Planes, helicopter, balloons and others that do not go into zero-G
Space
Also refered to as 'ship' and 'boat' these are capable of both zero-G and gravity based travel. Boats carry more and travel further. In Fututre Earth light speed travel has not yet been attained
Hover
Hover vehicles are quite unique in that they are not limited to ground terrain types enabling to go above ground or water but only to a height of 20FP. The drawback of these vehicles is the purchase price and fuel costs, also they are not good at carrying very heavy load.

Ground Vehicles
Motorbikes, cars, trucks - using tire or track. It is important to understand that various vehicles have controls, gears, levers, etc. located in various parts of the structure, thus one cannot simply jump on a bike from a primitive society when you are from an advanced society without first studying the functions of the said bike.
It is also important to understand that knowing how to drive a vehicle does not mean you know how to fix it. Terrain is also a very important consideration and will determine the + or - factor in how well you manoeuver across it.
In advanced societies enclosed computerized vehicles is not uncommon. You may even find a high level bot driver, but since there can be complications it always pays to have someone who knows how to drive.
Water
Water vehicles refer to motorized propeller driven boats, jet engine speed boats, tankers and passenger ships. There is also the submerged vehicles as well as one man transport known as water skis.
Being able to drive these also assumes that you know how to swim very well, but necessarily how to fix them. Also consider underwater diving is not the same as driving a Water Vehicle.
The advancement in technology has caused underwater homes to be common, but they are very expensive to maintain. Usually the owners of such homes will have a submerged vehicle that is capable of surface travel.

Air
Air vehicles refer to propeller driven or turbine engine aeroplanes, helicopters and motorized balloons. More advanced technology has as its engine jet engine or vacuum propulsion. It also encompasses jet packs and other kinds of equipment that allow humans to go from the surface to outer orbit of a planet. It is important to understand that this is not the same as a 'Ship's Boat' or 'Space Craft' which can go beyond orbit. The class known as 'Flyers' normally operate these vehicles.
Space
In Future Earth space travel is based on three kinds of Ships (not to be confused with Water Based Ships):
Shuttles - These can carry you from surface to an orbiting moon and back, but they cannot go beyond that because of their capacity for fuel.
Interplanetary Boats - These are capable of going from one planet to the other. They are usually quite large and can hold a goodly amount of cargo, but travel is generally slow.
Inter-Galaxy Boats - These are supposed to be under development and if used it would be only in Military / Research type operations.
Spacecraft are built to withstand great stress and so they are quite expensive. Therefore it is not common for an everyday citizen to control one. Be sure that you gain a lot of information about any kind of Spacecraft you will be a passenger on as they are considered to be floating coffins for some.
