Three things...
1. You are not 'in' a forest, but near one... so your going away from it
2. Are you mounted? Two by two - carrying braches? You are stopping to go collect branches? if so from where? Where are you fitting a dead body?
3. The night's description is already in the storyline
We are not mounted now. The horses are tired, as are we. We will walk a ways into the plains, away from the forest, build a very small fire, hiding it as well as we can, and essentially have a cold camp. The fire is there only to help us quickly light torches if we need to do so.
Since the moon doesn't give us much light, we will travel quite slowly at this point. No torch is lit at this time, so we will have to trust the senses of the horses.
Ramer:
"How much farther do you think we need to go? With no light we have no way of knowing where we are. It sounds like the wolves are far off, if we keep a cold camp and rotate a guard through the night we could at least get some cold rations and a little rest. With light in the morning we should be able to tell better where we are."
We settle down, hobbling the horses. Joe starts a small fire, just enough to provide light for the camp for a little while. Joe tries to hide the fire as much as possible, building it in the lowest point possible, etc. We set up watches, about 1 1/2 hours each.
Watch order: Mud, Sabina, Ramer, Sidraul, Joe, Kron.
Joe asks Sabina, who is an herbalist, to see to Sidraul's wounds.
Go to the dice and make one roll to see if you are found. When you have done so reply here with what you want to do if you were not found - it is a new day:
0-15 you are caught by wolves
16-30 you are ambushed
31 and higher you are safe for the night
I rolled the dice. I got a 72.
When the sun comes up, we all get up and break camp. We have each used a day's rations, and fed and cared for the horses. We will continue walking to the southwest, toward the mountains. We will break at midday for lunch and about an hour's rest. We will also take good care of the horses at this time.
We are always watching for running water, in order to water the horses and keep our water bags filled.
At about 4:00 PM, we will begin to seriously look for a defendable campsite. If we are near the mountains, we will look for a cliff face to camp against, a small canyon, or some other place that will provide us with cover. If we are still in the plains, we will look for a small hollow, where we can build a fire without it being visible away from us. We need to rest a bit more, and get a good sleep.
Each person will ride for an hour during the day, to keep up our energy. With 4 horses, and 6 of us, that should not cause any problems for the horses. There should always be one person on horse back, with bow prepared, watching for trouble. The people, and the horses will be switched every hour.
We break up into two teams.
Team 1:
Ramer, Joe, and Mud
Team 2:
Sabina, Sidraul, and Kron
Team 1 will attempt to use Ramer's grappling hook and rope to climb the mountain. As they get to the top, they will carefully (and very stealthily) scout the area - the other side of the mountain, and, if there is time before dark, sneak toward Death's Mouth. Team 1 will haul their weapons up to the top. Joe, with the most soul, will lead the scouting party. All three will have missile weapons ready.
Meanwhile, team 2 will establish a small, hidden camp, always looking for a small spring or stream. Hopefully, they will be able to establish a camp where the horses could be left for a day or so, if needed.
So are you saying team 2 is leaving their current position (the surroundings is already described in the storyline) to go in search of a small spring or stream? If so, in which direction and for how long? On foot or by horse? Who will lead team 2?
We place Kron's body out, light a torch, and set it by the body. We then retreat about 20 yards to the west, to see what animals, if any, come up to the body.
Everyone has their missle weapons ready, in case something comes up to Kron's body.
If nothing comes up to the body within about an hour, we will move back to the body, cover it with Kron's bedroll douse the torch, and proceed to make a camp about 50 yards away. We will each take a turn as guard. We will make a VERY small fire, in a small pit. Just enough to be able to light a torch easily if need be. Whoever is on watch will feed the fire.
Guard will be as follows:
Sabina first watch
Mud
Joe
Sidraul
Ramer
Each watch will be about 1 3/4 hours.
